If North Korea is dumb enough to bomb any of those places, China won't pick up the phone when the US, or other countries, make an attack.

I think China thinks of NK as their idiot little brother. They know he is a moron, can't be trusted with the silverware, but they promised mom they would take care of him.

NK has been posturing like this for decades. Unfortunately Trump is pathologically incapable of hearing any sort of rhetoric or insult without escalating.

And as Mueller closes in, Trump will become more and more desperate to start something to distract from his own failings.

“First, I'd negotiate. I would negotiate like crazy and I'd make sure that we try to get the best deal possible…These people in three or four years they're going to be having nuclear weapons…..”

              “Nice shot Mr President.”

“They're going to have those weapons pointed all over the world and specifically at the United States and wouldn't you be better off solving...the biggest problem this world has is nuclear proliferation and we have a country like there, North Korea, which is sort of wacko, not a bunch of dummies and they are going out and they are developing nuclear weapons... and wouldn't it be good to go out and really negotiate something?"

“It’s 195 to the front Mr President.”

“I would speak to him; I would have no problem speaking to him. I would put a lot of pressure on China because economically we have tremendous power over China... China can solve that problem with one meeting or one phone call."

Give me the three wood, thanks.

"If he came here, I'd accept him, but we wouldn't have a state dinner like we do for China and all these other people who rip us off."

“I think it caught the right hand bunker Mr President.”

“North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States. They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen, and as I said, they will be met with the fire and fury and, frankly, power, the likes of which this world has never seen before.”

“Well out Mr President. Bobby, get the rake please.”

"People are saying, "Is he sane?" I have no idea. I can tell you this, and a lot of people don't like when I say it, but he was a young man of 26 or 27 when he took over from his father, when his father died. He's dealing with obviously very tough people, in particular the generals and others.”

              “Nice putt Mr President.”

“Yeah, I sure enjoyed that one; that’s a sandy.”

“And at a very young age, he was able to assume power. A lot of people, I'm sure, tried to take that power away, whether it was his uncle or anybody else. And he was able to do it. So obviously, he's a pretty smart cookie."

“8th hole is 438 yards Mr President, right bunker is 260.”

              “Driver.”

              "Here you go Mr President."

“The people of this country should be very comfortable and I will tell you this… hang on a minute while I hit this drive ..”

              “FORE!”

              “Holy cow!”

“Yeah, big slice there Mr President.”

“If North Korea does anything in terms of even thinking about attack of anybody that we love or we represent or our allies or us, they can be very, very nervous. I’ll tell you why….And they should be very nervous. Because things will happen to them like they never thought possible, OK? He’s been pushing the world around for a long time.”

“Keep an eye on this one, please,”

              “Provisional ball.”

              “FORE!”

              “Hell’s teeth!”

“I think they’ve found it Mr President.”

The US can't afford another war. As we keep hearing for 'fiscal conservatives', the US debt is at record levels. It can't afford to keep spending "other people's money" on social programs etc.

It's amusing that these so-called fiscal conservatives only complain when money is being spent on helping people, and never complain when money is being wasted on killing people. To cite a proverb that was summarized the attitude in Britain after WWII:
"If we can find the money to kill people, we can find the money to help people.”

If the US spent on healthcare for its citizens what it spends on its military, it could pay for healthcare for everyone in the US.

Perhaps the US should concentrate on fixing its own domestic problems, rather than endangering and destabilizing the world by trying to 'solve' international problems?

in this case I think Trump might be doing his posturing strategically. He knows he has a reputation as a loose cannon. I think he is playing up the rhetoric hoping to scare NK into backing down, making them think they are dealing with someone crazier than Kim Jung-Un.

Trump is pretty good about taking his Generals' advice and letting the military handle military things. I don't think he will actually do anything too crazy. But if NK does attack I think all bets are off. The USA probably has several subs parked off the coast of NK right now waiting to launch.

right, we should just dismantle our military so nutjobs like Kim Jung-un can just nuke the USA and anyone else they want to. And then we could spend the money on healthcare, which we will probably need after half the country is dying from radiation burns.

A proper escalation of hostilities. When someone threatens to bomb you, you make preparations to stop them. They have the capability of hitting Guam in 20 minutes. A typical unfueled jet scramble takes 10 - 15 minutes, leaving only a few minutes to intercept and destroy. By that time, the potential nuke is close enough to do some serious radiation damage. Having them prepped and ready cuts the time to about 5-7 minutes, making the intercept time and distance more manageable.
