NK has made absurd outlandish threats before, so this is nothing new. Nukes or not, they have no chance in hell of taking on the US, and they know it. They are simply threatening people to get world attention, and start negotiations on economic sanctions in return for stability.

Have they actually explicitly suggested nuking the US? The US media has creatively spun it that way, but the actual threat I've seen from NK was basically "we plan to test fire some missiles that will land harmlessly in the sea near Guam" and the US media and Trump have creatively spun that as "they're threatening to NUKE GUAM!!! Should we nuke them first?!?" Someone turned the rhetoric up to 11 there and it wasn't NK.
