Right. I was speaking from the perspective of a normal society, not a theonomy or theocracy.

I agree to a point, but I was replying to KG's tell that to God post.

I would think that is mostly due to it being illegal. Kinda like how it wasn't unheard of for alcohol to be tainted during Prohibition.

I'm always still in trouble again

            May be true.

ETA: To return to the topic of the thread, I am convinced there is no way to clear prostitution with Christian morality. Having said that I am at a loss as to what would make the most sense legally.

I prefer a model like what Sweden has adopted. They go after the pimps and the johns and assist prostitutes in leaving the industry.

Is there any "moral" reason for fornication, masturbation, and pornography to be legal?

If not, isn't there some sort of professional obligation for police and prosecutors to actively pursue and punish each of those offenses?

I don't think pornography should be legal, so

Making fornication illegal would probably lead to a big uptick in abortions in people trying to destroy evidence of what they did so I wouldn't be on board with that.

I do wonder why some things that the Bible makes clear elsewhere are immoral aren't banned specifically in the Mosaic Law. (Female homosexuality comes to mind.) Maybe because they were so obviously considered shameful there was no need to spell it out? I don't know.

The thing about legalities is that they ultimately do not deter committed criminals or underground networks. I'm much more in favor of establishing a more mainstream network of organizations that have to operate within certain parameters but are also given proper resources and backing to enforce safety for the people involved to minimize abuse and human trafficking. Without a shadow of a doubt there are some people out there who would voluntarily go into sex work for their own set of reasons and some who would view it as any other profession. For that reason alone I think it's always worth a shot as long as you remain adamantly anti-human trafficking and consent is always made a priority.

That's more of a pragmatic argument than a moral one.

With that, compare how at first, Roman law provided no penalties for the commission of parricide - such a crime was considered unthinkable. Curiously enough, the Torah makes no special provision for parricide either.
