GrayPilgrim's pick for 12-17-2003 ~ Just the Facts Ma'am, just the factsOriginally posted by Socrates in the thread King James Bible Statistics on 12-17-2003
Actually he was James VI not VII of Scotland, and bisexual.
And Pilgrim is of course totally right, "logically that would have nothing to do with the inspiration of the translation he commissioned."
But I think HR's point was likely a tu quoque against KJVOs, who often try to vilify Westcott, Hort, Metzger, Kittel et al. as a major argument against the modern versions. See my post Westcott's beliefs for documentation of his belief in the deity of Christ and the Rez, and KJV is just a translation! which shows how Metzger affirmed the Trinity and reliability of the NT and trashed JW fallacies.
And just to show how we have already gone through many of these issues and Ed hasn't answered, see my posts Ad Fontes works guys! for what the KJV translators really believed (and they were not KJVO!!); The REAL KJV-1611 had marginal notes and Scriptural reading guide including Apocrypha, and "Corruptions" in the TR/KJV for many places where the modern versions are superior in doctrine, including the deity of Christ!"Reading the Bible in a translation is like kissing your bride through the veil."
Rabbinic Saying"To suppose that whatever God requireth of us that we have power of ourselves to do, is to make the cross and grace of Jesus Christ of none effect."

To quote from the original preface to the 1611 King James Version...
Therfore as S. Augustine saith, that varietie of Translations is profitable for the finding out of the sense of the Scriptures...

I love that quote. I use it every chance I get with KJO folks.Where is human nature so weak as in the bookstore?- Henry Ward Beecher

:bouncing: Yeah, that by itself is enough to blow them away. In fact, many things about the real KJV-1611 demolish KJVO nonsense, as shown in the links of my post.
