      This kind of possibility really opened up when they recovered Neanderthal DNA. Suddenly researchers could do the kinds of studies that are done in forensic science for detecting kinship, although I suspect this research is somewhat more complicated.

      I gather these folk need to know both their genetics and their statistics. The earlier humans and Neanderthals needed to know neither - lucky sods.
