So true. Not only will they automatically assume you are an abortion advocate, but then you must also embrace homosexuality, too. For all the hubris of being the "spiritual" leaders...they sure have trouble with logic...

Then again, this link actually discusses the dangers of going too far into patriarchial stuff. Essentially that coplementarianism is not supposed to be patriarchal but some people try to make it go too far in that direction. Seems that men and women can both be stuck in the boy vs girl who's better battles, when they need to realize that differences don't make one better than the other just different.

There is no "balancing" in patriarchy. It is either patriarchy, matriarchy, or equality. Yes, sure, there are differences well enough. Different gifts, too. But patriarchy or matriarchy don't care about gifting and ability but about the power of one gender to rule (aka "have the final say") over another. It's abusive...

This link shows its not about "balance" no matter how loud the soft complementarians cry foul: http://www.ashleyeaster.com/blog/com...and-patriarchy

Like I said, it's a grown up version of girls and boys arguing about which gender is better and missing the point. I don't understain why they can't grow up and stop the power plays. It does seem like boys want power more than girls, but that may be a stereotype. I have no clue about the complementarian vs egalitarian debate. Other than wondering how many ladies actually support the "complementarian" view.

And this link about the logical fallacy of "equal but subordinate". This one get thrown out a lot, "You're not inferior, you're just "different""

This actually gets us closer to a theological discussion...there is more to say on this. But, to be fair, not all men go along with patriarchy. Some men are actually fully confident in their identity that they don't need a woman to be inferior to them for them to not be psychologically damaged (as John Piper suggests men would suffer http://www.desiringgod.org/interview...olice-officers)

Separate but "equal" much? Don't know why they think equalitarians are hyper feminists that think women should have all power. Humans are crazy.

Yes, and AS SOON as a woman starts advocating equality...they are automatically assumed to hate men and want to take control! No, indeed. It is the Complementarians who are trying to MAINTAIN control and superiority. Equalitarians are just trying to have equality...not superiority. Equalitarians are not matriarchists looking for women to control men, but Complementarians are patriarchists looking for men to maintain control over women. No matter how soft and "beautiful" they use language to try and make it seem. They say, "Look, women...you don't have to worry about all this responsible leader stuff...we are your "servant-leaders". You are so delicate and special...here, we will do this FOR you." All the while conditioning women to be inferior and then judging them for being so. It's such BS

So, some boys(not men, they can be men when they grow up!) are control freaks. What's interesting is that egualitarians actually bother to use the historical and cultural context, while complementarians act as if the Bible were written only to 21st century Westerners and we don't need no stinkin' context. Hmmm.... It's impossible to argue with people who refuse to take context into account. They think wooden literalism is Gospel truth and you can't be a good Christian unless you agree with them. I've noticed that a lot with secondary doctrine issues. Poor research and ad hominem attacks. So much for Loving God with all our minds...

Seriously, with fellow Christians saying your ontological differences make you incompetent or unable to lead and make decisions...who even "needs" enemies?! Good grief.

What church do you go to? I've occasionally visited churches that teach that and just ignored it, but I can't imagine what it's like for you if your church continuously preaches like that! Not to mention that I've seen Christian men who were very immature in their faith to the point they could not be spiritual leaders in the home. And they probably feel guilt tripped over their incompetence also. Seriously, this stuff isn't good for boys or girls. Men and women hopefully are not getting dragged back into this immature stuff. Uh oh! Maybe I'm getting into the "not a good Christian if you disagree with me camp"! Except that the previous sentence was tongue in cheek, so...

You are sooo right. It's so not good for men, either. Yes, they can feel guilt tripped for not acting in-control enough. It's a real concern. There is also the conditioning to need power...which has its problems, too. I believe pornography is an outcropping of patriarchy, no doubt.

As for my church...it is not constantly preached in words...but in deeds. When women are judged either ontologically incompetent to lead (in a spiritual or administrative sense) or potentially competent but unable to walk in the potential God gave her in leadership due to an arbitrary creation order, it is more than preached.
