All ~5 progressive youtube channels I watch semi-regularly have been complaining bitterly about their videos getting demonetized. You're crazy if you think youtube is out to get only your part of the political spectrum. This video will have gotten through because it's a rap video not political commentary and it won't have set off any of the flags the automatic algorithm checks for.

Firstly, learn that historical context matters. The US has a history of race-based lynchings of blacks. It doesn't have a history of lynching whites. In that context, in talking about or depicting a lynching, it makes a big difference who is being depicted as being lynched because it conveys a different impression and refers to a different thing.

Second, learn that incitement to violence is not the same as an artistically provocative thought experiment. The guy is not saying "we should lynch whites, go out and lynch whites!", he's saying "think about how it makes you feel when you see the historical stereotype inverted and a white person swapped in for where a black person usually is, and ask yourself why this image causes a difference in your gut reactions to it".

The reactions from conservatives in this forum to race-based social justice issues in the US just ooze ignorance. You guys don't even seem to ask basic questions like "what is this person trying to achieve?", you skip straight to "this annoys me/offends me, I'm sure they must be out to get me, they must be bad". Your level of willful ignorance is sad.

Conservative commentator Steven Crowder, host of Louder With Crowder (which has over 700,000 subscribers), has repeatedly pointed out how differently YouTube treats his show as compared to programs like the liberal The Young Turks.

For instance, Crowder's shows are FCC compliant with all foul language bleeped out, YouTube regularly puts his videos in "restricted mode" which means they have decided that they're potentially objectionable and not appropriate for younger viewers. OTOH the Young Turks shows are often heavily peppered with vulgar language yet they are never deemed by YouTube as being potentially objectionable and not appropriate for younger viewers.

Likewise YouTube has put restrictions on 21 educational videos put out by Prager University, the content of which would garner a G rating if they were in movie theaters, restricting their access by many schools and public libraries.

As one of those who has been affected by YouTube's conservative blacklisting noted

"Google’s^[1] going to need to explain to me why John Oliver can engage in weekly invective punctuated by a hail of profane epithets, skew it leftward, and still have ads for Pampers and pimple cream adorn the margins of his unwatchable videos."

As the conservative publication National Review has observed, conservatives are being banned, but Jihadists promoting violence aren't.

I suspect the simple answer is that TYT is bigger. Numerous progressive programs in the wider TYT Network on youtube have been suffering demonetization - Secular Talk, Majority Report, TYT Nation etc. So youtube clearly aren't favoring progressives over conservatives, I suspect their automated algorithm is instead whitelisting channels with a particularly large number of subscribers (e.g. > 1 million or > 3 million or somesuch). Either that or the large channels have a direct hotline to a youtube service rep whom they can yell at if they're being demonetized, but I suspect if that was the case then TYT would have intervened on behalf of the numerous progressive channels on their network that are suffering from youtube demonetization.

I know you conservatives love to believe everyone is out to get you, like you pretended to yourselves with the IRD 'scandal', but it's not the case.


Edit: Having done a little more research I am not convinced your factual claim that TYT isn't being affected is actually true. TYT's owner comments "this [youtube demonitization] has probably affected us more than any other channel [on youtube]".

Let's bear in mind that some conservatives felt it necessary to organize their own version of wikipedia. US conservatives seem to operate with alternative facts, and an alternative version of reality. How US conservatives act is often not predicated on rationality or reality.

I would be just as upset if they were hanging a black child. Any child. To use a child as a political statement in such a way is abhorrent.
