Glory Seed Devotional’s, 2017: Anticipating and Experiencing God...
Isaiah 43…
Shalom!
When it rains it pours! I am not sure you’re familiar with that phrase or not. I first became familiar with it on a box of Morton Salt (I think it was anyway) but over the years I discovered it can also apply to our lives. And it rain and poured in our lives as recently as this past Sunday! Patti had her right knee replaced two weeks ago tomorrow (prayers work because she is doing wonderful) and then Sunday the 24th I was reaching in the closet to get my Sunday-go-meeting clothes and SNAP! And something snapped in my middle of my back, it took my breath away and put me on my knees, and the rain turned from a gentle rain to a full-blown rainstorm. So, Monday and Tuesday all I did was sit in my chair and to nothing. Then yesterday Patti insisted I find out what happened and my son and daughter-in-law hauled me to the ER to find I had a compression fracture,
Does anyone remember the slogan for Ipana Toothpaste? It went “you wonder where the yellow went you brush your teeth with Ipana Toothpaste.” I didn’t do-nothing Monday and Tuesday like I said because God didn’t immediately come to take my pain away I prayed, “You wonder where God went when gentle rain turns to a full-blown rainstorm?” If you’ve ever had an experience where it seemed God was a million miles away you already know He was so close couldn’t see Him. Because that was where He was for me Monday and Tuesday why it just gave us the “stuff” to endure rather than fix my pain is beyond me, but after eating a little “crow alacarte” I thanked Him for His presence with me the past 3 days and throughout the healing process.
The entire experience has left me wondering why I temporarily keep forgetting the promise in the early verses of Isaiah 43. “…Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.” (Isaiah 43:1–2, NLT)
“God, I promise to do better at remembering the next time! Amen.” Gary…
“May God be merciful and bless us. May his face smile with favor on us.” **
Grace and PEACE,
Gary
