Here is a stock market chart of the Dow Jones IA 2014-2017. Notice it goes from a flat line from 2014 to 2016 to a sharp climb right in november '16 when Trump gets elected.

The story notes that even Manafort himself didn't trust the guy and rejected his proposals to set up a meeting with Russia.
