"As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths." Isaiah 3:12

There is no such thing as innocence, only degrees of guilt.

Cutting someone's ears off for theft isn't as bad as cutting their hand off as is still done in some parts of the Muslim world

I'm always still in trouble again

          Peter did it.

It must be. The alternative is unthinkable.

I don't think the death penalty issue is decisive. At least some of the Mosaic laws appeared occasional in nature. Given that these sorts of actions were likely not an issue in Israel at the time the laws were given, it should come as no surprise there's nothing about them.
For a little context, Columbus was under arrest for only 6 weeks before he was released and all his property given back to him, and while he no doubt was responsible for some terrible treatment of the natives (as well as some of his fellow Europeans), a lot of the rumors of that treatment were exaggerations by Columbus' political enemies, or by clergy like Bartolome de las Casas, who would exaggerate claims so his readers at home would sympathize with the native plight. The natives themselves weren't wholly the noble savages that we sometimes imagine they were either. So, for instance, the Arawak people that Columbus came into contact with were known to have committed human sacrifices, torture of their enemies, and cannibalism.

It goes way back before that. The KKK had it out for Columbus back in the 1920s because of their hatred for Italian Americans. They, instead, wanted to see a commemoration of Leif Erickson who more easily associated with their white pride politics.

Yeah, Columbus is kind of an Italian-American cultural icon. The Italians are proud of having one of their own having discovered this country. It is ethnic pride. Which is why Columbus Day is so big in New York City. So why aren't the liberals being culturally-sensitive to the Italians?

Besides, I wouldn't want to piss off the mafia. Just sayin.

There are more liberals than just those who live in New York, and even there, they're not all Italian.

Yeah but liberals are supposed to be culturally sensitive. Here they are not. And since most New Yorkers are liberals and there are a ton of Italians there, they are basically dividing themselves again. The democratic party seems to be splintering themselves with all of this "alt-left" nonsense.

Could be that Italians are so culturally ingrained now that it's not really looked at that way unless you come from an Italian neighborhood.
