So when I wrote this I was a complete noob spectator. Now that I'm a tiny bit less of a noob spectator, I'm a little less impressed with Goeido. I still like watching him, but there are so many to choose from....

Kotoshogiku is fun (and hilarious) to watch.

Kisenosato is the epitome of calm and collected. He was recently promoted to the highest rank of sumo, and IMO he earned it.

Ichinojo is a big boy (6'4", currently ~430 pounds), and knows how to use his weight.

And of course Hakuho, statistically the best sumo wrestler ever (and arguably the best period).

Have you ever seen Memoirs of a Geisha? There's a scene in it where they go to a sumo match - they got real sumo wrestlers and a real referee. If I understood the commentary correctly, the referee was considered a Japanese national treasure.

While not any actual sumo wrestling the legendary Sadanoyama Shinmatsu had an uncredited cameo in the James Bond movie "You Only Live Twice" where he gives some tickets to a sumo match to Bond

I knew I was a true fan of sumo when I watched that movie the other day and, during that scene, thought: "Dangit, quit cutting to Sean Connery! This is legit sumo!"
