2) A similar issue exists for "4-letters".
3) There needs to be an "it is" after "so", unless you really meant the antecedent of "sentence" to be "word".
4) A missing comma is an error in punctuation, not an error in grammar.Jorge: Functional Complex Information is INFORMATION that is complex and functional.

"8-words" and "4-letters" is correct. A dash is generally used to combine elements in a sentence that could not otherwise stand on their own. You could not say, "The word was 4 long," or "The word was letters long," so "The word was 4-letters long" is grammatically correctly.
Should "it is" have come after "so"? That's more of a stylistic choice in this case, because my meaning was clear without, and I have no doubt at all that you understood exactly what I was intending to say. Not to mention that these sorts of "shortcuts", if you will, are acceptable in informal communication.
Finally, punctuation is generally considered to be a part of grammar, although this point may be somewhat debatable, depending on who you ask. Some may call me foolish, and some may call me odd

Hard to tell if that's supposed to be a "a laughing at them" parody, or a "laughing with them" tribute. Knowing Saturday Night Live, I suspect it's the latter. Some may call me foolish, and some may call me odd
