No it wasn't "solidly red". The last 10 governors show that. 3 Republicans and 7 Democrats.

    Chuck Robb - Democratic

    Gerald Baliles - Democratic

    Douglas Wilder - Democratic

    George Allen - Republican

    Jim Gilmore - Republican

    Mark Warner - Democratic

    Tim Kaine - Democratic

    Bob McDonnell - Republican

    Terry McAuliffe - Democratic

    Ralph Northam - Democratic

Democrats also won big in N.J. and in just about every other election around the country including Montana, Washington State, N.Carolina etc etc. as well as a referendum on expansion of Medicaid in Maine. Yeah, definitely a referendum on Trump and republicans
House seats? what the heck are you talking about? The election was for Governor, Lt Governor, Attorney General and state legislators. As far as I know there were no House elections. Do you just make stuff up now? Or did I miss something?

      And let's see:

Montana: Republican Greg Gianforte won House seat.

In fact here are the actual results after all of the 2017 races:

      Governor and Senate:

      House:

Not much change at all, Jimmy. not much of a referendum.

Virginia hasn't had a Republican governor in 15 years and only two Republican Lieutenant Governors since 1978. Democrats have controlled both Senate seats since 2008 (just under a decade).

Virginia hasn't had a Republican governor in 15 years...
Robert McDonnell seems to have been a politician of unusually broad appeal, having been both Republican and non-Republican at the same time.
