a huge milestone
I am making this post as my first official online act in my Red Hat Linux partition.

It took me long enough, but I finally found a modem that works. In the grave they chose to make their beds
Now all that they've created comes crashing down,
Down upon their heads
Death is waiting

Aaaarrrrrrgggghhh.
Yum doesn't recognize that gnome 2.4 is out OR that kernel 2.6.0 is out.
I don't want to upgrade my kernel manually.

It's only about half as painful as I expected. I was able to install gcc with minimal trouble so I could compile the new kernel. The only problem I'm having now is how do I install the newly configured kernel so grub will load the correct one on boot?

Ok, I cheated. I upgraded to Fedora Core 1 and it works now. There are some minor bugs that I'm not sure now to fix (I can't always save new network connections) but I think I'm gonna like this a lot.
Time to test out the packet sniffer.
