You never know who's going to get sucked into stuff like this. My friend's father (who I knew both in church and as a Boy Scout leader, and respected as a stand-up guy) got busted in a kiddie porn sting and spent a few years in jail. I don't think he would have done anything like that himself....

I'm not sure how repenting will make a mental disorder go away. Pedophiles are sexually attracted to children, it's not just that they like harming them for the sake of harming them. I mean, obv a miracle is always possible but it doesn't seem to be the norm. Sexuality in general is a very powerful impulse, it's why so many people can't avoid sins of a sexual nature.

It's odd to discover he was the one with underage pornography rather than one of the many manga artists who frequently have fetishistic drawings of underage female characters in their manga. From what I remember, Watsuki avoided that sort of thing in his work.

FWICT Japanese laws are much stricter than those in Europe and America. What would be tolerated in Japan can change dramatically if they don't censor the genitals.

Age of consent in Japan is 13 (officially) though there are other laws that come into play where there is a discrepancy in ages. But - where one partner is 13 and the other is 12, the law makes no concessions. Likewise, if both are 12, they can both be prosecuted for statutory rape.
