Apologetics 301 Guidelines

If you think this is the area where you tell everyone you are sorry for eating their lunch out of the fridge, it probably isn't the place for you

This forum is open discussion between atheists and all theists to defend and debate their views on religion or non-religion. Please respect that this is a Christian-owned forum and refrain from gratuitous blasphemy. VERY wide leeway is given in range of expression and allowable behavior as compared to other areas of the forum, and moderation is not overly involved unless necessary. Please keep this in mind. Atheists who wish to interact with theists in a way that does not seek to undermine theistic faith may participate in the World Religions Department. Non-debate question and answers and mild and less confrontational discussions can take place in General Theistics.

Guess on which list you appear?
The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

Also agreed. It's the advocates, not the supporters, that I object to. The ones that originate the quote-mines and other deceptions. The ones like:

Jesus told them that they were hypocrites who pretended to be pious but instead were subjecting people to their made up laws while they did what they wanted. They were the politicians of their time. The sleaseball congressmen who told people to respect women while they groped them in the elevator so to speak.
Even a sleaseball politician can learn. I just don't agree with the approach ascribed to Jesus.

No - it is never a waste of time to teach. You never know what is actually going in. My job is to create the learning environment. Their job is to learn. If I do my job, whether or not they learn is up to them. If I do NOT do my job, then they cannot learn. A farmer may loose crop if some of the seed falls on poor - soil. But they have NO crop if they do not cast the seed at all.

Jesus's approach wouldn't be aimed at them, or even at their die-hard brainwashed followers, but at those undecided people who might be salvageable.
Then Jesus aimed too narrowly, IMO. Now perhaps one can claim that he was god and could see into hearts and wasn't wasting his time with those whose hearts were not open. I do not see him that way, so I cannot go there. You never know what is in another heart, and when and where a well-cast seed might land. So why intentionally poison the well? (I think I just mixed my metaphors.. )

Actually - I thought it was a marvelous way to answer the question, drawing a clear line between matters of daily existence and matters of salvation (from his perspective), leaving his listeners to ask themselves, "so what exactly DOES belong to Caesar, and what belongs to God?"
