  • Washington Transit Authority removes Christmas ad because it is religious.

    The ad:

    ---
So basically as long as the ad is for selling Christmas crap it is OK but if it is actually about the reason for Christmas, it is rejected because it is religious. Newsflash: Christmas is religious. It's even in the NAME.

For many years, my wife - graphics designer for Texas A&M - has been designing their company Christmas cards. Last year, they notified her that, from then on, they would be "Holiday Cards", and no religious reference would be allowed.

She said, "Well, OK, but my job description includes the design of Christmas Cards, not Holiday Cards, so we'll need to find somebody else to do that".

Pleasant surprise - her boss backed her up 100%. They gave that part of her job to somebody else, and she got a merit raise.
The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

Wait, isn't Christmas a federal holiday? Like in Christ's Mass?

WMATA told them that if they submit a non-religious ad, that would be okay.

This is blowback from a couple years ago when there was an outcry because they accepted some anti-religous ads.

Well the ad itself has nothing actually religious in it. Just the website it takes you to. Which you have to actually type in since it is on a bus.

            The Archdiocese is suing them.

didn't they allow pro-islamic ads from CAIR? or was that a different Transit Authority?

The 'cta' on the bus shows that it's quite likely a different one.

WMATA is a government agency established by Congress taking lots of taxpayer's money whereas Sweet Cakes by Melissa was a small private business.

Again, I don't see where Congress or WMATA is violating the Diocese's freedom of speech or freedom of religion. Nobody has a right to require WMATA post anything somebody wishes to have posted. WMATA is within its rights to limit as it sees fit.
