So many scandals. This one hits particularly close to home, for me.

Sumo grand champion Harumafuji announces retirement due to allegations of assault on junior wrestler Takanoiwa. Rightfully so, in my opinion; yokozuna are held to very high standards, and should continue to be. Still, depressing. Harumafuji was a heck of a guy to watch.

rogue, I resent you not giving this thread the proper weight it deserves. I heard this news because I'm a huge fan of sumo, and this was a massive disappointment to me. Harumafuji was always entertaining to watch; his retirement will be a tough thing to stomach.

Still, kudos to him for making an actual apology. That must have taken guts.

This happened outside the ring, and apparently happened because Takanoiwa was mouthing off, Harumafuji attempted to correct him (so far so good), and went too far (too far no good). Takanoiwa got a concussion and wasn't able to make it to the November tournament because of it.

He probably just wanted to do a Gibbs slap to the head, but since a sumo's hand probably weighs 50 pounds he gave him a concussion.
