Enter the Church and wash away your sins. For here there is a hospital and not a court of law. Do not be ashamed to enter the Church; be ashamed when you sin, but not when you repent. – St. John Chrysostom

If JimL truly wanted to go by what the majority wants then he would be against abortion, and support the 10 commandments on public property, and prayer in school, be against gay marriage and transsexual bathrooms -- Since the majority of Americans are conservative Christians.

I'd like to see how all you middle class self concerned conservatives feel if these programs actually disappeared and reality hit you in the face.Enter the Church and wash away your sins. Democracy has turned out to be the most successful form of government. My country has been a stable democracy for more than 150 years now. The public has yet to collapse the country by voting for money for themselves, because just as people are smart enough to understand their own finances and that they can't spend without earning they also understand that the government's finances are the same."I hate him passionately", he's "a demonic force" - Tucker Carlson, in private, on Donald Trump

That is why it is necessary to have a centralized system that ensures a collection of money from all across the country and then distributes that money to the people who need it, rather than private individuals and charities just handing it out on an arbitrary basis in the local area. It is also why you need centralized standards for the quality of training that the social workers working with these people have to meet. These things ensure that all poor people across the country receive a minimum standard of at least semi-competent assistance. Private charity can do its bit on top of that if it wishes, and can indeed be helpful in some ways in some local areas, but it can never be a complete solution to the overall issue for the above reasons."I hate him passionately", he's "a demonic force" - Tucker Carlson, in private, on Donald Trump

Likewise the quality of the assistance will vary significantly from charity to charity, and though some charities will be run very effectively and efficiently and be particularly helpful to the poor and judicious in how they help them, others will be incompetently and inexpertly run and do as much harm as good to the people they are trying to help.

Curious how so many self proclaimed Christians are so greedy and uncaring when it comes to the plight of there fellow human beings, well, at least once they are out of the womb. A bit hypocritical I would say.The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.
