  • Goodbye, FM Radio

That is, of course, if you live in Norway.

Norway becomes first country to switch off FM radio

But I note that last sentence... only national radio channels.
The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

I think this shows the biggest flaw in SETI. They want to search for advanced civilizations by listening for broadcasts, but it is looking like radio and TV are not broadcast through the air in advanced civilizations. Pretty soon everything will be via the internet which is mostly hard wired. Wi-fi doesn't have the range to reach space, and satellites are aimed at the Earth, not away from it.

Check me if I'm wrong on this. I think what we call "network" is what they call "channel". What we call "channel" is actually a frequency band. For example, they call BBC a channel, but we call BBC as well as ABC, etc. a network.

And "FM" is frequency modulation, as contrasted to AM, amplitude modulation. They're not getting rid of the stations, just converting them to digital, like we did years ago with television. I used to watch long distance television stations with weak signals, but that is no longer possible.
      When I Survey....

I've always thought "channel" referred to what we watch on TV, and "station" is what we listen to on the radio. (either AM or FM)

A lot may have gotten lost in the translation, yes, but I think the point is that half of the cars can't receive the digital signal, and ... I just thought this was interesting. Technology!

Actually, FM radio is channels 201-300 but nobody in the United States or Canada (that I know of) uses that. Except in call letters for repeater or satellite stations. W201AA or K201AA, for example, would be repeater stations transmitting on 88.1 MHz.

The real problem with SETI is that the aliens are ignoring us.

Meh, I listen to AM radio anyway. There's a dearth of sport's radio on the FM side.
We know J6 wasn’t peaceful because they didn’t set the building on fire.

As long as you can find out what type of radio it is, you should be able to find the code online.

When was the last time you saw a digital radio you can by at your local department store? I know locally there are digital radio broadcasts. Where are the digital radios in the local stores?

Oh it is called HD, high definition. A clock radio would be HD, AM/FM.
