That reminds me of the time... um... there were these three ministers, A Baptist... um... the rocks, you have to know where the rocks are!

A rabbi, a priest, and a minister are out fishing in the middle of a lake.
The priest tells his two colleagues, "I left my fishing rod in the car; I'll
be right back." He gets out of the boat, walks across the water to the
beach, goes to the car, walks back across the lake, and gets into the boat.
The rabbi stares at this in amazement.
30minutes later, the minister says, "I need to go to the toilet." He, too,
gets out of the boat, walks across the water, finds the nearest men's room,
walks back across the water and gets into the boat. The rabbi is absolutely
        dumbfounded!
The rabbi keeps thinking, "My faith is as great as theirs!" So he speaks up
and says, "I need to get something to drink; there's a refreshment stand on
        the beach."
He stands up, puts his feet on the water, and SPLASH, he goes straight down
under the water. The priest and minister help him back into the boat. He is
embarrassed, not to mention wet, but he knows he can do it if the other two
can. So, he stands up again, steps out onto the water, and again, SPLASH!!
Again, he is dragged out and again he decides to try. As he is going down
for the third time, the priest turns to the minister and asks, "Do you think
we should show him where the rocks are?"

Exactly. I see many cartoons I laugh at and like, without agreeing with their premise. That happens a lot with political cartoons.

                  - it does indeed. Now I understand your question. "Amen" means "so be it" or "let is be so." I've been using it as "I like this," which I echoed with my post, but using the button that way is misleading. You were responding to my post, not the post I amen'd, so I never connected it with the "amen" I made on the other post. I can see how that "amen" would have skewed your interpretation of my "like" post. I'll have to change my behavior with that button - I am regularly "amening" things I like, not necessarily things I agree with.

My apologies for confusing the matter.

Digging up the dictionary definition, as though he doesn't know how people talk is definitely eyeroll-y behavior.
We'll have to agree to disagree. As I noted, I often like things I do not agree with. I find that is true of many (most?) people. Personally, I have not assumed that someone says they "like" something means they "agree" with it. Maybe it's a question of local dialect, but I've pretty much assumed most people function that way. Why on earth use words other than how they are defined?

If that results in an eye-roll, so be it.

That gets to be an issue frequently - somebody "amens" a post because they like the overall gist of it, and somebody else will pick on one fine point and jump on "SEE, you absolutely AGREED with....." Sometimes I amen a post, then do a disclaimer post.

(OK, so sometimes I amen a post because I'm trying to report it. )

This reminds me of a discussion with my cousin in the past. She seemed to think that disagreement necessitated dislike. I mentioned several people who I liked, but definitely disagreed with, and some I disliked, but agreed with. She got really bent out of shape over that conversation.

I think that is a common misconception.

A lot of people equate disagreement on a topic with "you hate me" or agreement on a single topic (or point of a topic) with a "you agree with absolutely everything the other person has ever said or thought"

Sadly, I think you are right. Didn't seem to matter when I explained to her that wasn't the case. I'm wondering if she hates those she disagrees with, and therefore thinks others are the same way.

Apparently, that is replaying here... but I own responsibility for at least some of it. I forgot I had "amened" the post as well as voicing that I liked it. The "amen" was confusing. Unlike "like," it DOES imply agreement. So anyone who saw both was justified in assuming I was agreeing with the historical claim. OBP justifiably called me on it.
