Natural Science 301 Guidelines

This is an open forum area for all members for discussions on all issues of science and origins. This area will and does get volatile at times, but we ask that it be kept to a dull roar, and moderators will intervene to keep the peace if necessary. This means obvious trolling and flaming that becomes a problem will be dealt with, and you might find yourself in the doghouse.

As usual, Tweb rules apply. If you haven't read them now would be a good time.

Normally the title phrase is a sign of problems. In this case, it's a positive. A nice profile of the head of the Vatican Observatory, and why the Vatican can do some research that doesn't fit well into the traditional grant funding model.

The Bible is not a science book but correct me here wasn't there a super nova or nova about that time when Jesus was born. The wise men would likely have been Zoroastrian and from Persia seeing this as a sign which would be consistent with their beliefs. When evaluating data its very important to look at the eyes of the day and not our own.

And its a positive to consider scientific evidence. Not all Christians are incapable of separating religious studies and evidence from a purely neutral POV. Aka me oxmixmudd rogue kg

nice read. I hadn't thought about them being able to work independent of transient funding models and political priorities. (Assuming the RCC itself takes a mostly hands off approach to their choice of projects)

My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism. James 2:1

If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not  bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless James 1:26

This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; James 1:19

The text has the magi coming from the east following a star seen in the east. That would logically take them east making them from the west. The text is clear the magi came from the east and the star was seen in the east. Now this star did something no ordinary star ever does, ". . . the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. . . ." -- Matthew 2:9.
. . . the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; . . . -- Romans 1:16 KJV

. . . that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: . . . -- 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 KJV

Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: . . . -- 1 John 5:1 KJV

Yep. The "star" had to have been within the troposphere - and changed direction, what with Bethlehem being south of Jerusalem.
