Below was a picture from the 1930s showing a long line of people waiting at a bus stop, each one with his face buried in a newspaper.
Maybe a better analogy was when everyone blamed violent cartoons for violence.

Where did I not correctly identify the problem? Do you fling inapt insults every time your ox is gored?

My ox is just fine, thank you very much.

Go back to page one and see if you can pick up the thread of my argument, because it seems to have slipped out of your grasp.

On the beginning of the third page you mistake symptom for problem. You think that because people use video games for dopamine releases the video games are the problem when in reality they probably don't have anything else going for them in their life and video games (or binge watching netflix, or food, or porn, or a thousand other things) are an easy out.

People who get addicted to video games for the dopamine release aren't doing anything else because nothing else gives them the dopamine release they crave, not because they don't have anything else going for them in their life.

Same thing. If they had something going they would get dopamine fixes from that. But they don't, and video games are a cheap, concentrated alternative.

Video games, like drugs, can be addictive in ways that rock'n'roll and DnD typically aren't. I know this from experience. I generally don't play video games any more because they're a giant time suck. "Woah, how can it be 2 AM?!? I've been playing since I got up this morning!"

I'm sorry you can't see the distinction.

Which, again, moves it into the category of a behavioral problem rather than a physical addiction.

There's no distinction (at least in the way you worded it). It's true that they can't get that fix anywhere else. Because they have nothing else going on. The way you word it you imply the two are mutually exclusive.

You're still describing a behavioral problem and not a physical addiction. Like I said, people often use the term "addiction" because it puts the blame on something other than themselves. "I played video games until 2AM, not because I have a lack of self-control but because the game is addictive." You see that? Now the problem isn't you, it's the game. Once you put the blame where it belongs ("I lack self-control") then you can work towards a proper solution. In your case, you simply stopped playing games, which is a responsible decision if you otherwise could not control your behavior.

Let's put it this way: nobody ever had to "detox" after they stopped playing video games. It's not an addiction.
