Yes, I hear you. I still find it odd. You'd think it's something that should go without saying. It's almost as though the left could elect someone who had a sordid history, and it would be no big deal, because...well...they don't emphasize righteousness, so it's all good. That's...eww...to me.
No, I don't think that's true - for exactly the reason you cite - it's

I'm glad you said it, because I was about to. I was finding it ironic to be having this discussion with the one person I've encountered on this site that is both right-leaning AND willing to challenge Trump on his behavior. I'd be darned curious to know if you voted for him - but that is none of my business.

    But I AM curious...

Umm... no. I'm afraid I don't just dismiss 40+ years of "playboy" record because I don't have evidence that he slept with a mistress or had sex with an intern in the last 12 months. There is zero indication that this man has repented of anything, has altered his views or attitudes, or that he's somehow become free of his sexual history. The man is immoral in many, many ways.

In fact, Sparko, I think you're working just a little too hard to turn a blind eye. My opinion, of course, so take it for what it's worth.

Well the secret is...I'm not right-leaning. I'm largely apolitical, and according to surveys I take, am a left-leaning centrist. I'm also semi-sympathetic to various forms of Christian Anarchism. Also, I don't vote.

Hmmm...I'm definitely not apolitical...I'm also a left-leaning centrist...and I'm not sure what "Christian Anarchism" is, so I'm not sure if I'm sympathetic.

Ever read Tolstoy? Specifically The Kingdom of God Is Within You?

              Do you drink beer?

Have read Tolstoy - years ago. Have not read that specific work.

I'd love to know your approximate location. I travel a good deal, and would love to buy you a beer in exchange for conversation, if I am in your area. PM me if you're OK with that. If not, I understand. On the Internet, no one knows you're a dog.

Last I checked, Donald Trump is in a post-divorce marriage (actually, a marriage after two divorces). Or does it not count as "current" because the act of marriage itself was in the past?

                      Of course it is.

Trump is self-evidently sexually immoral; his ultra vulgar statements re Africans and Haitians vis-à-vis white Norwegians are widely accepted and, as for his lies, the NY Times for one has kept a list of Trump’s lies from Inauguration onwards and they number in the hundreds.

Given that 80% of white Evangelicals voted for Trump one can only assume that he represents Evangelical values.

His number of cumulative lies hit 2000 on Jan 9 according to the WaPo fact-checkers.

                          LOL

And let's not forget the biggest of them all, the 'great birther lie', which he maintained for years. That one was grounded in racism and very likely had a sexual element as well, given the large size of African hands...a sensitive point with The Donald as we all know.

We're talking about the same guy who promoted himself as a social liberal during the campaign, correct? The guy who was holding up gay pride flags? Snap out of it brother. Trump is as much a Christian as Obama is.
Did you read or head Trump's Christmas address? He was basically preaching the gospel, and it's not something I would expect from a nominal Christan, and certainly not from a non-Christian. Trump may not be a particularly good Christian, but to say he's not a Christian at all is not a judgment I'm willing to make.

And, given that Obama gave an almost identical speech at several tree lighting ceremonies, does that mean you are willing to give him the same suspension of judgment?
