I'm not saying there's anything wrong with being fat, I'm saying it's a stretch to believe that Trump only wieghs 239 lbs, and that 239 lbs just happens to be 1 lb under obesity. This Dr. is supposed to be credible, and he may be, but I don't believe that one for a second. If Trump only wieghs 239 lbs then the scale they used must be off by 40 or 50 lbs.

My experiences with being weighed by doctors and nurses is they're not all that worried about being particularly accurate: They'll do it with clothes and shoes on and cellphone+wallet in your pocket etc and then deduct several pounds in estimation for those things, and they're quite happy to be a little be malleable with their estimates to please the patient. Height tends to be a bit malleable as well (people's height varies anyway throughout the day as the spine decompresses at night when you're horizontal).

Doctors are malleable about it in order to please patients because from a medical perspective all they are interested in is a ballpark figure - there is zero value in being super-accurate about these things. All they are after is general things like: Should I be recommending this person lose weight (in Trump's case, yes, his doctor did); is the person losing massive amounts of weight rapidly that I should do a medical investigation as to why (e.g. possible cancer) etc?

Given I'm aware that the average doctor is 100% fine with creatively shaving 5-10 lbs off patients' weights when the patient suggests that maybe their true weight is lower than what the doctor is seeing on the scales, I can totally believe that this doctor, knowing that Trump's results would be publicly released (and perhaps totally reasonably feeling that publicly fat-shaming someone by releasing their weight isn't really fair), and feeling a higher than usual level of obligation to his client, he might say "okay, because it has no real medical value, I'm happy to shave X lbs off the publicly reported weight, Mr President, on the condition that you agree to follow the diet I have laid out for you, and lose some weight."

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. The Doctor is said to be very credible so it seemed wierd to me that his wieght seemed to be so far off. But your explanation makes a lot of sense. I think it's a riot though that it was shaved down to 1 lb under obesity. That sounds just like something Trump would do.

It's because their "Trump has dementia" narrative was blown out of the water, so now they've moved on to the "Trump is obese, and his doctor lied about his weight" narrative. Even that hack on CNN, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, was claiming that Trump has heart disease, and I guess the presidential physician missed it or something? Who knows with these guys.

Having heart disease is not passing everything with flying colors, so why the good Doctor would frame it that way I don't know.
