If you say that then I must be doing just fine. Thanks.

Oh no, and I could cite evidence forever. Just for instance, have you caught a glance at a poster calling himself Obsidian? Dude spends his days thinking about putting all gays to death, because Bible.

Go ahead and tell me how Jed registers on that TWeb insanity scale.

Seen a few of his posts, yeah. Comes across as autistically obsessive about particular views, like Rational Gaze and Darth Executor do - very narrowly focused thinkers who have a Particular Extreme Viewpoint That They Will Make Sure They Tell You About.

Sure, but that kind of thing is a fairly commonly observed behavior from deeply repressed closeted gay people who are brought up as extreme fundamentalist Christians. They have pretty extreme cognitive dissonance and a deep inner struggle that consumes their thoughts, and they project it outward. It's not really insanity in the usual way I tend to think of it - as a disconnection from reality.

TWeb is certainly a rich field when it comes to insanity, and there are many different kinds on offer. Jed favors amening the most extreme posts he can find - I wouldn't be at all surprised if a substantial number of Obsidian's posts that you're complaining about were amened by Jed, and he also favors endorsing pretty far out Alex-Jones-esque conspiracy theories that even most of the rabid right here shun (it might just be a case of Rush Limbaugh on the brain). And then he sprinkles in a reasonable dose of simple pan-standard disconnection from reality at a level that wanders between being old and actual insanity.

What is the difference between me insulting a single person (you) and you insulting a whole class of people (transgender people)?

Well you're insulting about a hundred million times more people. Do you seriously think it's reasonable for you to go around labeling millions of people as insane, and then get offended when someone suggests you might actually be the one insane one?

Or what is the difference between transgenderism and insanity?

A simple way to think about it is to think of how different people in the world like, dislike, or want to change things about their bodies. Some things are very easy to change - e.g. hair style. A person can cut their hair short, grow it long, or comb it over etc. Only marginally more difficult to change is hair color - they can buy dye and dye it. Skin tone can be similarly changed - with liberal application of orange dye to your skin you can look like Trump. Changing weight is much harder, and is a multi-billion dollar industry, as is changing muscle tone. Women who are dissatisfied with their bodies and faces increasingly are opting for modern cosmetic surgeries ranging from botox, to nose jobs, to breast enlargements or reductions, etc.

There's increasingly more things that can be changed about our bodies, and the cost of changing them is getting lower. But some things are still harder than others to change, leaving many people still unsatisfied with their bodies. Some people are very happy with how their bodies are currently, and others are very unhappy. One thing that some people like to change about their bodies is the gender. And modern science is able to help them with that via hormone treatments and sex reassignment operations. I would estimate probably 30 years until the ability to change the gender of the DNA at the genetic level is developed (i.e. alter the XY <-> XX chromosomes in all the body's cells).

I consider what people want to do to their bodies to be largely a matter of personal preference. Some people want to dye their hair blond, others want to get a tattoo, others want to get their smile lines removed, others want to lose weight, and others want to change gender. Some are cheaper and more easily accomplished than others (I've been working on the weight loss one for a while), but none are really insane by definition.

If someone wishes they had the body of a 9 year old, as per the O.P., whatever - why should I care? It's not relevant as a criminal defense against child molestation because 9 year olds aren't even allowed to have sex themselves, nevermind molest other children. His acts would still have been illegal even if he had been actually 9 at the time.

I could tell you stories about those two. They have interesting personal histories, in the sense used to describe a meal that should never be served again.

Homicidal ideation shouldn't be euphemized into cognitive dissonance.

This was within weeks of the slaughter at the Pulse nightclub, less than four hours up from the road from me, and part of a consistent pattern, I was informed. I didn't merely report him, I asked for him to be banned, something I've never done before in over a decade of posting here. And then I documented it all. And stopped posting here for months when the site chose to take the risk of allowing him to continue.

For the record, that's not true. Now if you had guessed Darthie ...

Hillary's hit squad was out there, but the pan-standard for him is folksy bee-keeper, which is how he should be seen. That's his real life, this is a hobby. Similarly, Sparko is a graphic designer, and pretty good at it. The preacher is, at heart, a small businessman, and relatively successful at that, too.

I have fundamental disagreements with all of them on theological issues, and most of them on political issues, but they're not demons, and it's a mistake to portray them as such. Because when everyone is demonized, no one is demonized, and the real demons walk scathelessly.
