  • female self-made billionaires

Can anyone think of any female self-made billionaires? By self-made I mean they didn't already start with wealth in the billions. It's ok if they inherited small (but still pricey) companies and built them up themselves into multi-billion affairs. Obv even better if they just started off with practically nothing.

Going through the forbes richest people in the world Gina Rinehart is the first one who shows up (at #91). There are other women, but pretty much all of them inherited their wealth from their father or husband.
"As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths." Isaiah 3:12

Oprah and JK Rowling come to mind.
"I hate him passionately", he's "a demonic force" - Tucker Carlson, in private, on Donald Trump
"Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism" - George Orwell
"[Capitalism] as it exists today is, in my opinion, the real source of evils. I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy" - Albert Einstein

Oprah counts. Rowling isn't a billionaire anymore.

I'm not sure how accurate their idea of being "self made" is, but here's a list from Forbes:

Actually Gina Rinehart inherited her fortune from her father Lang Hancock, Australia's richest man at one time. JK Rowing is thought to be back in the billionaire class given the success of her film 'Fantastic Beasts'. But there will certainly be more male billionaires than female because, until relatively recently, women were regarded merely as chattels to be kept "barefoot, pregnant, and slaving over a hot stove", not starting and running businesses.

Check out Hetty Green, the "Witch of Wall Street," who died in 1916. The richest woman in the world at her time, the equivalent of a multi-billionaire in our day. A really tragic case, the richest woman in the world, she and her children living like they were in poverty because she didn't want to spend on her money.

She was born with a silver spoon in her mouth and inherited nearly 80 million dollars. I wouldn't call that self-made.

Rinehart inherited a borderline bankrupt company from Hancock, and it wasn't worth anywhere near what she turned it into. That's why I'm counting her, the overwhelming majority of her money was made by her.

Until recently = 100+ years ago, and even that is a gross exaggeration.

Interestingly enough the list seems to be dominated by Asian (especially Chinese) women with American ones winning the consolation prize. With few exceptions Europe isn't well represented at all. That would seem to contradict Tassman's already dubious claim that women can't become billionaires because they were allegedly unable to own property 300 years ago.

You can see a similar trend in technology. Asian women are much better represented than white ones despite the former generally living in more patriarchal societies while the latter are free to do whatever they want. Either Asians in general like working with technology more or The Patriarchy actually encourages women to do useful and productive things, unlike feminism which encourages them to paint with menstrual blood and other disgusting nonsense like that.

It's astonishing just how far equality for women has come in just that "100+ years". Emily Pankhurst and the suffragettes began the transformation of the Western world into a new pattern of equal rights for all from which there could be no going back. Prior to this women were expected to stay in the so-called “women’s sphere” of society, caring for home and family under the protection of husbands and fathers.

It really hasn't come far at all. Because the sexes aren't the same. Equal rights actually seems to push women away from traditional male roles they don't really wanna fulfill, as the data shows.
