But the committee was never able to obtain or review the classified information at the heart of the inquiry, according to three congressional sources briefed on the investigation who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the press. The panel’s inability to determine for itself what may or may not have been classified—and what Nunes had actually been shown—likely contributed to its decision to close the investigation, according to one source.

      No worries.

I assume any statement that is not directed toward any particular poster is not targeting any particular poster. MM is careful to target the general liberal, as he understands the term. There's room to grant good faith.

You should feel free to object by targeting a general ideology in reply.

I'm unsure how well that would work on the leaking issue. From the original wikileaks releases to the DNC hacking, Republicans, as the only remaining political voice for conservatives, have been all over the map on the issue, but partisan advantage or disadvantage have most often outweighed ideology.

In effect, as I've mentioned before, there is no longer a conservative party in the US.

The Watergate story was broken by an anonymous source namesaked after a porn star.

Anonymous sources are only anonymous to us, and there's generally enough ancillary information to place them pretty closely. There's an etiquette involved. Senior administration officials are cabinet rank and above. Congressional sources means congressmen.

Even with anonymity, there's a story that can be pieced together on the sourcing. They were briefed, but not authorized to speak to the press, and they were congresspersons. That points to ethics committee members, and the release itself points to Democrats. So three of these representatives:
          Democrats
Ted Deutch, Florida - Ranking Member
          Yvette D. Clarke, New York
          Jared Polis, Colorado
          Anthony Brown, Maryland
          Steve Cohen, Tennessee

So there's that. But there's also the fact they weren't contradicted by majority members, that I know of, and I was watching for that after the Atlantic story came out. And the fact the investigation went on for eight months.

It's enough to be cautious about saying Nunes was cleared, even before taking into account his other actions.

And yet Nunes was in fact cleared.

Oh, but I like your standard of "It's true until someone objects". The liberal media loves dupes like you. Makes their job so much easier. You should ALWAYS be suspicious of anonymous sources until the story is confirmed by a named source. It's gotten to point that whenever I encounter a story with a variation of the words "sources say" then I stop reading. Journalistic standards are nowhere close to what they were in the days of Watergate, and anonymous sources are more often than not a cover for fake news.

That's why the Nunes investigation has been so devastating for the Democrats, because he isn't afraid to name names.

And speaking of named sources, Democrat Representative Jim Himes admitted to MSNBC that the Russian investigation is a running joke, and Adam Schiff admitted on THE VIEW that there is no evidence that Trump colluded with Russia.

Source: Chairman Bob Goodlatte and Chairman Trey Gowdy Request DOJ Special Counsel…

House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte has direct oversight authority over the U.S. Department of Justice and Federal Courts. Within this oversight, the House Judiciary Committee also has oversight over the FISA court. Additionally, in his current oversight role, Chairman Goodlatte has been working closely with DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz.

Today Chairman Bob Goodlatte and Representative Trey Gowdy pen a letter (full pdf below) to Attorney General Jeff Sessions requesting the appointment of a special counsel to investigate “conflicts of interest” and decisions “made and not made” by current and former Justice Department officials in 2016 and 2017, noting that “the public interest requires” the action.

Mueller gathers evidence that 2017 Seychelles meeting was effort to establish back channel to Kremlin
Special counsel Robert S. Mueller III has gathered evidence that a secret meeting in the Seychelles just before the inauguration of Donald Trump was an effort to establish a back channel between the incoming administration and the Kremlin — apparently contradicting statements made to lawmakers by one of its participants, according to people familiar with the matter.

This looks pretty dark for Erik Prince, which I have to admit bothers me not at all, but what's more interesting to me is that this Seychelles meeting, like the previously reported attempt by Kushner to establish a back-door channel, happened after the election.

If, as late as January 2017, the Trump team was still trying to establish a back-channel, the indication is that no such channel existed prior to the election.

Of course, looking to create back-channel connections on their own with the entire state department and national security apparatus standing by to help during the transition could be chalked up to gross ignorance and incompetence, but the clear indication is that the incoming Trump administration had things they wanted to hide from our own government.

I'm going to backpedal a bit on this one, because the early parts of the campaign certainly included back-channel connections to the Russians via Manafort, and, to a lesser extent, via Papadopoulos. Still, this is evidence that after the campaign, during the transition, no such channel existed.

Source: House Intelligence Committee Investigation Turns to John Kerry, State Department

The House Select Committee on Intelligence is now investigating former Secretary of State John F. Kerry’s possible role into the unverified dossier paid for by the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton Campaign, this reporter has learned. The dossier, assembled by a former British spy, laid the foundation for the FBI’s investigation into alleged collusion between President Trump and Russia and was the essential piece of evidence used by the FBI to get a warrant to spy on a former volunteer for the Trump campaign.

For more than a month, the committee has been in its second phase of investigations focused on former Obama State Department officials and their role in either transmitting information or using information provided by a former British spy and investigator Christopher Steele. Steele was hired by embattled research firm Fusion GPS, also under several congressional and Senate investigations.

But it was in February when questions surfaced regarding Kerry’s possible involvement or knowledge of the dossier.

If I remember correctly you usually don't find it suspicious that someone is under investigation for "a possible role". You seem to always ask "where is the evidence" and insist that people are innocent until proven guilty. But it appears it is different in this case, or did I misread you? Uh-oh...
"Yes. President Trump is a huge embarrassment. And it’s an embarrassment to evangelical Christianity that there appear to be so many who will celebrate precisely the aspects that I see Biblically as most lamentable and embarrassing." • The story provides additional confirmation that the House intelligence committee under Nunes has abandoned even the pretense of continuing to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 election, and no further illumination.

On the contrary, from its initial premise that the dossier, sometime after June 2016, launched the FBI investigation begun in March, to the conspiracy theory suggesting Kerry brought in Winer to feed information to Steele that he nonetheless never included in the dossier, one finishes reading it with the same result as a Kellyanne Conway interview, knowing less after it's over than when it began.

                                About That Blue Wave …
Democrats had near-record turnout, with more than one million voters over all taking part in their primaries. Sounds impressive, right? But Republicans had actual record-breaking turnout, exceeding their previous midterm high-water mark, which was set in 2010. All told, with more than 1.5 million votes cast, Republicans had nearly 50 percent more voters take part in their primary than the Democrats in theirs.
