Indictment: Russians also tried to help Bernie Sanders, Jill Stein presidential campaigns

WASHINGTON – It turns out Donald Trump wasn’t the only candidate the Russians allegedly tried to help during the 2016 presidential campaign.

A 37-page indictment resulting from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation shows that Russian nationals and businesses also worked to boost the campaigns of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and Green party nominee Jill Stein in an effort to damage Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Yes - that's been in the news cycle for a while now. Apparently, the goal was (at least initially) not so much to elect Trump as to undermine Clinton. Of course, once the primaries were over, those two things became pretty much one and the same.

If they split liberal voters it would result in Trump winning, so those two goals were the same thing.

Even before the primaries. Sanders wasn't going to get the nomination because the party officials were against him. They could have been hoping for sour grapes voters or an independent run.

Before the primaries were too far along, they were pushing Sanders over Clinton. Had Sanders taken the nomination, it's unclear which way they would have gone. It's not clear to me that Sanders being unlikely to take the nomination was a major factor - they were clearly gunning for Clinton from the outset.

It gets even better... it seems that Mueller's latest indictment lifted a lot of its information from a Russian newspaper article published last October!

So, Russia wanted to create fear and mistrust in the US electoral system, and the media jumped to their aid with zeal, then blamed Trump. Anybody surprised?

                      nope... anything to hurt Trump.

The article does not say the information was lifted from the article - it says that the information was previously published in that article. Whether Mueller simply discovered the same thing in parallel, or the article provided the baseline and his team followed-up and verified the claims, or the information was taken as-is from the article and not further vetted is not stipulated in the article. Yet another example of "slanting" the claim to match a worldview. Based on what we know of Mueller and his integrity - the first two seem most likely to me. And this is certainly would not the first time a federal (or other) investigation was provided with information via the outcome of investigative reporting.

                        This is, IMO, inconsequential.

Of course it is. Anything that undermines the "Trump totally colluded with Russia!" narrative is dismissed as "inconsequential" by liberals.

Claims that are not supported by the available evidence are dismissed - hopefully by everyone.

Here is the original Russian article:
                                https://www.rbc.ru/magazine/2017/11/...79470e05a9e6c1
Open it in Chrome and it will translate it for you.

It is pretty much point for point what has been released by Meuller in recent days. If he didn't lift it directly from this article, then it is a million to one coincidence.
