OK, I RARELY buy extended warranties, but when I bought my 50" Panasonic flat panel back in 2013, the BestBuy salesman offered to lower the purchase price by a round number equal to the cost of a 5 year protection plan. The guy had just been super in answering questions, and helping me select a TV, so I thought, what the heck.

In the last couple of months, the HDMI inputs failed, and I had to connect the U-Verse box by the coax TV input. It worked, and I wasn't too worried, but my Amazon FireTV wouldn't work, because it was HDMI. I figured I'd deal with that "later". Then, a couple nights ago, the TV would blank out after being on for 30 seconds, and a notice would appear on screen "USB overload - please disconnect any USB devices and restart TV". But there were no USB devices connected.

I searched my Evernote for "Panasonic", and found a digital copy of the GeekSquad Protection Plan, called the number, and they immediately began setting up a repair appointment.
They were going to FedEx the part (motherboard) to my home, and have a repairman come out on Wednesday.
An hour later, "George" called me back, and said that part is obsolete and not in stock, so they will be authorizing a BRAND NEW 50" TV - current model!

I've actually had pretty good experiences with BestBuy, but this is the BestOne yet!

I went to them to get my iphone battery replaced under the new Apple price after the whole debacle of slowing down iphones was exposed.

I had to pay $29.95 but they said the batteries are out of stock till sometime in March.

So, since they couldn't find a TV "comparable" to the TV I bought -- that old one was a plasma -- they told me "Just go online at BestBuy, or stop in the store, and find a TV for $599, or however much you want to pay over the $599, and we'll authorize that.

You realize how much technology has changed over 5 years, and how much MORE TV $599 will buy today than it could in 2013? YOWZA!!!!

I'm gonna buy me a TV that pops out BACON at 5:45 AM when it's time to get up!

They are some of the worst pc technicians I have ever seen. I've had to fix so many things they screwed up for so many people...

Yeah, I wouldn't trust them with anything software related at all.

I remember a scandal awhile back when some of them were searching through customer's photos looking for pornography. (Though I'd imagine this probably happens with a lot more than just GeekSquad.)

I remember something like that, but I think the government was using them to investigate somebody suspected of child porn. Sound familiar?

Some of you kiddies won't remember when we actually had "photo booths" where you would take your negatives to be "developed". And there were always stories of the people doing the developing making "extra copies" of "certain photos".

You whippersnappers probably are too young to remember the olden days when mossy was young(er) and they had to chisel photos onto stone tablets. There wasn't much copying going on then. Took too long.

                          OK, they're blowing it!

Appointment is supposed to be today "between 8 AM and Noon".

A couple days ago, I got a text confirming that appointment - "respond 1 to keep the appointment". I did.

Yesterday, got a RoboCall confirming my appoitment - same day and time slot, but deliver address in CONNECTICUT!!!!

Called BestBuy to make sure they were delivering to me in TEXAS where I live, and go transferred to the "local store" which will dispatch the delivery. The "local store" turned out to be way up in East Texas, nowhere near me. They offered to transfer me to my local store, and after about 15 minutes of stumbling around with transfer, oops, wrong store, ok, right store... on hold... guy answers identifying proper local store, I start to explain my concern - line goes dead.

Attempt to call back - local store number automatically routes to national voicemail h-e-doublehockeysticks number, start all over.

Email from BestBuy last night asks me to confirm my appointment by clicking on the "appointments app" link. Clicked, and it asks me for my order number. Copy/pasted order number just to be sure I didn't mistype it --- no such order number.

Concern is that the BestBuy guys will go to load the truck this morning, and discover that my new TV is in CONNECTICUT instead of Texas.

JUST NOW got a call from the BestBuy GeekSquad --- "we'll be leaving in 45 minutes to an hour - should take us about 30 minutes to get there".

So, the SOONEST they'll be at my house for my "8 AM to Noon" appointment is NoonThirty.

You reminded me of my iphone battery which I paid for but they back ordered. So I just called them. I have been on hold for 10 minutes with nobody picking up.
