have you been watching the same news as me? more gun regulations and laws is taking guns away from more people. so is banning semiautomatic guns, or AR-15 rifles, or repealing the 2nd amendment. all are things people are calling for.

No one here is talking about taking guns away from all gun owners or punishing them in some other fashion. Nor is this the first time I've said exactly that. Nor is it the first time I've mentioned this to you, directly, including in the last post of mine you quoted. It will be the last time, however, because endless repetitions are tedious.

This "they're going to take all our guns" theme shows up regularly in conspiracy media.

Nobody is preventing effective action to prevent this kind of bloodbath. Well, actually, Hogg is, by making excuses for the inexcusable failures of the FBI and local cops.

And Hogg isn't a victim. The shooter never went anywhere near him, he was filming some dope videos for his blog while the shooter was shooting other people far away from him. It's not even clear if he was in the same building (politifact just says he was on campus). couple of kids got stabbed when I was in high school, that doesn't make me a stabbing victim.

Simple: there's no religious doctrine for gun owners that commands them to subjugate and kill non-gun owners.

When it comes to Muslims, we can thank God that more of them aren't serious about following the commands of their holy texts and the example of Mohammad (peas be upon him), but it's a ticking time bomb, so it's prudent and reasonable to take measures that will prevent them from gaining a foothold in the US.

Sparko is right. I was actually not talking about taking away all guns from all people. I truely thought what we needed was a couple of simple steps, and a lot of study before we determined the next step. But I have shifted my stance. When I realized that we have a contingent of citiizens willing to harm their fellow citizens on the basis of a disagreement about arms, and that the primary motivation is to "own guns," rather than ensure the safety of all... I have joined the ranks of the "repeal the second amendment." I now realize that we have been arming a part of our electorate that is perfectly willing to do harm to the rest of us so they can preserve their "right" to own a gun. So we have foolishly armed an an entire generation willing to be the next "Ruby Ridge" or "Waco" and happy to see themselves are martyrs to that cause.

We need to repeal the 2nd Amendment. It is the only way to end this insanity. There is no middle ground so long as the right will not compromise on gun safety. I did not used to think this way, but I have been convinced by the intransigence of the right.

Technically it's not necessary to repeal the 2nd amendment, merely to interpret it accurately. I think the 5-4 SCOTUS decision in the 2008 DC v Heller case, that creatively reinterpreted the 2nd amendment and took it from being a historical relic about militias to a modern-day everyone-gets-a-gun insanity, was manifestly wrong and a radically incorrect decision by the 5 conservative SCOTUS justices. For the vast majority of US history, the 2nd amendment was understood more accurately and thus did not cause the deaths and chaos that it does now. Saying 'repeal the 2nd amendment' grants the gun-totters a veneer of constitutional legitimacy that they shouldn't really have.

While I in general think that lots of parts of the US constitution are obsolete and that ideally the whole thing would be revamped and updated for the 21st century, that's impractical in the current polarized political environment. While I also think that repealing the 2nd amendment would make the US a much better country, in practice getting that sort of constitutional amendment through would be pretty much impossible.
