Sure. If we get eternity in a perfect universe, I might as well experience everything an imperfect one has to offer first.

Why or why not.
I was reading a book about what would be possible in the future and it was speculated that we could just upload our brains into a computer. This would allow us to live however long we wanted. For now I am ignoring the philosophical issue of would that really be "me" in the computer, let us assume that it is.
Would this be what God would want?
Would I be considered an abomination?
Do I have enough faith that God exists to forego this chance to live forever?Last edited by element771; 03-30-2018, 11:41 AM.

Personally I don't see any problem with wanting to extend your life, we already do that. That is why we take care of ourselves and go to doctors and try to cure disease. This would just be the next step: no aging or disease. I am not talking about making computer copies of yourself like you are though. That would just be a copy, not the real you anyway. Even if there is no soul.
But would it be wrong to extend your life indefinitely if you are a Christian? Is that being unfaithful? Eventually if we are right Jesus will come back and it will be moot anyway, right? Or would we lose our faith over time if we lived for 10000 years?

In the Garden of Eden, didn't God block off the tree of eternal life once we ate from the tree of knowledge?
But your point is taken as well... we extend our lives all of the time, at what point is it bad?

I don't think there would be anything wrong with extending your life as long as you could. If they offered a way to abolish aging and disease, I don't really see any reason not to accept it. Who wants to grow old or get sick?
But if there were artificial means like you mentioned where a copy of you could live on, whether in a computer, or through cloning a body and transferring memories, I don't think I would do that. That would just be a copy of you. The original you would still die. Kinda like the old star trek transporter thing. If they destroy you and recreate a copy of you over there, that isn't you anymore. If they created the copy of you over there but forgot to destroy the original - there would be two of you. One original and one copy.
I read some sci-fi story like that once. They offered to put your mind in an android body so you could live forever. But it turns out that they didn't destroy the original you. They sent the originals to the moon and used them as slave labor without rights, while the copy of you was blissfully unaware.

At best, until Christ returns, giving the 1000 years before the end of the universe. When He returns there will be for the redeemed immortality.. . . the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; . . . -- Romans 1:16 KJV
. . . that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: . . . -- 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 KJV
Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: . . . -- 1 John 5:1 KJV

I think this would be a net negative for humanity. Glenn Miller's theodicy as relates to animal death/predation focuses on resource hogging. He argues that animal death can be considered a good thing because it allows more animals to have a good life under the sun rather than just letting a few animals live indefinitely. You can consider the same principle with humans. There isn't enough room/resources on earth for an infinite amount of people to live."I am not angered that the Moral Majority boys campaign against abortion. I am angry when the same men who say, "Save OUR children" bellow "Build more and bigger bombers." That's right! Blast the children in other nations into eternity, or limbless misery as they lay crippled from "OUR" bombers! This does not jell." - Leonard Ravenhill

You would not be invulnerable. You could still die if someone killed you, or you were in a car accident, etc. But there would be no disease, no alzheimers, no obesity, no mental illness. You could potentially live forever at a young age, with good health physically and mentally."Obama is not a brown-skinned, anti-war socialist who gives away free healthcare. You are thinking of Jesus." Episcopal Bishop of Arizona
