Breaking News: Biology Students Win $200 Billion Lawsuit

American students who took high school or college biology courses between 2001 and 2018 have won a class action lawsuit against textbook publishers and authors, as well as high schools and colleges, that taught them falsehoods about the evidence for evolution.

On Friday, U.S. District Court Judge Samuel Agassiz Hodge ordered several biology textbook publishers and authors to set aside $100 billion to settle claims that the plaintiffs were defrauded by lies promoting the doctrine that all living things are accidental by-products of purposeless evolution. Judge Hodge found that the doctrine is actually materialistic philosophy disguised as empirical science, and that the textbook “evidence” for it had been knowingly exaggerated, misrepresented, or even faked. The plaintiffs represent millions of current and former students.

Judge Hodge also ordered more than 14,000 public school districts and almost 3,000 colleges to set aside an additional $100 billion. He said the plaintiffs had “overwhelming evidence” on their side.

The plaintiffs originally sued to recover damages from as far back as 1959, but Judge Hodge ruled that they could only sue for damages suffered after the publication of Jonathan Wells’s landmark book, Icons of Evolution, which was published at the end of 2000.

Dr. Wells, who testified at the trial, said afterwards, “This is very gratifying. Many former high school and college biology students — some of whom were required to spend thousands of dollars on tuition and high-priced biology textbooks — have told me they wished they could get a refund for their miseducation. Now maybe they’ll get some of their money back.” Wells added that he will not receive anything from the settlement.

Postcards have already been sent to over 200 million high school and college students and graduates, inviting them to provide documentation that they were assigned one or more of the many textbooks named in the lawsuit. The U.S. Postal Service has set aside an entire floor of its headquarters in Washington, D.C., to handle the expected flood of responses.

Meanwhile, the defendants are calling the decision “the end of civilization as we know it,” and they vow to appeal. Supporting them in the appeal will be the American Association for the Abuse of Science (AAAS), the American Association of Unhinged Professors (AAUP), the National Censor for Science Extermination (NCSE), and the American Censorship and Lies Union (ACLU)."

Now, this came out on April 1, 2018 (April Fool's Day) so it's likely just a joke. But joke or not, the mere idea of such a thing happening for real had me doing some happy dances! Perhaps one day - by the Grace of God - we will see it happen for real.

Hehehe April Fool's to the Evo-Faithful fools out there (you know who you are!).

At the very end he admits that it is likely an April Fools joke.

So my question is this. Jorge only does drive-by posts these days. He does not participate in them at any serious level. Sometimes he never responds to activity on his threads at all. I wish he did, but he does not. Does it make sense to allow him to continue in this fashion? I suppose it sort of helps Keep Nat Sci alive in that activity always rises when he dumps one of these loads in it, but beyond that?

Just about every "serious level" of interaction that I attempted here on TWeb - spanning well over a decade! - has encountered the likes of critters like you, O-Mudd. Yeah, it took me a while (perhaps far too long) but eventually I got it. You wouldn't know serious, honest discourse or debate if it jumped into your arms and called you mommy.

So now I just stop by, provide some information (as I recently have) and then move on.
And, of course, we can count on Ol' Reliable - O-Mudd - to make Jorge the villain for that.

It would be great to find someone here for a serious, honest chat. Who would you have in mind? Yourself? Rogue06? Roy? Beagle-Boy? Duragizer?

Make you the villain? The official policy is not to post a link - the goal is to encourage discussion of an idea, not just slap up links. From my perspective, just slapping up some comment about some idea and then running off into never land only to rinse/repeat with another thread started you don't participate in is not much different and thus violates of not the letter of the law certainly the entire reason such a rule exists. So I'm asking if it makes sense for you to be allowed to do that.

Of course, just spouting out ad hominems to anyone that tries to discuss your posts is not much different ... but is a far more common and historically tolerated form of 'participation'.
