To be fair, I think most people think of themselves as a "moderate" with extremists to the left and right of themselves. Except maybe Starlight and Demi who probably accept they are the extreme left and right.

I think of myself as a "moderate" conservative.

Translation - you aren't discussing the same thing so no issue of contradiction exists - and the whole list is a fraud.

The list is an attempt to get people to think beyond their assumptions.

Since the things are in the same sentence, it's irrational to assume different definitions with no such indicators - so yeah, they really are contradictions.

Because I average slightly left of center, when my various positions are put together.

Of course that is going to make me "left wing" to most people here.

I have to chuckle when I see the kinds of comments I typically get here. On the liberal boards I frequent, I get exactly the same comments, just from the other end. "Why do you cling to centrist when you're clearly a closet conservative?!" And I chuckled at MM's, because I just got an almost identical comment on a liberal board, and I quote, "centrists are just dishonest conservatives trying to be more accepted by liberals/progressives!"

I guess if the left sees me as right, and the right sees me as left, I must be somewhere between!

Seems to only work with those already inclined to think a certain way - maybe it's not a very effective tool for that. Probably because it attacks language instead of assumption.
