I thought the OP was referring to the announcement that Starbucks will be closing 8000 stores on May 29 for "racial bias training".

To my knowledge, they have not announced if the training will encourage or discourage bias against white people.

They didn't screw up so bad, if anything the employee screwed up. It may have, but it also may not have, had anything to do with race. Maybe the employee is just a jerk, or maybe he was just having a bad day, who knows. I don't even think the guy should have been fired unless there is an expressed company rule stating what to do in such a situation. StarBucks are usually small places and maybe they were taking up seats that the manager wanted reserved first for paying customers. What I don't get is why were they cuffed and arrested? Did they refuse to leave when the police asked them to? Or did the police even ask them?

Go in and tell them that you identify as black and demand your Reparations Coffee. If they question you scream "How Dare You Assume My Race!"

It actually wouldn't be the first time a white person identified as black. Heck, the founder of Black Lives Matter was white (both of his biological parents were white), but he still insisted he was black, although he did try to claim that his real father was an unnamed black man that his mother once had an affair with. Classy move, that, throwing your own mother under the bus.

Don't forget the now former president of the Spokane chapter of the NAACP, Rachel Dolezal, the woman of German, Dutch, Swedish and Czech ancestry but who claimed she was black (now saying she "identifies as black").

Be glad it stops at coffee.

The government here's been forking out a billion dollars over the last 30 years in reparations, and the colonists here treated the existing peoples relatively nicely (compared to other colonized countries) and we never had slavery. Wait until someone calculates for you the reparations bill due to you for genocide of the natives, stealing all their land, kidnapping black people from Africa as slaves, slavery, the KKK's terrorism, Jim Crow apartheid/segregation, etc. You'll wish it only amounted to free coffee for life for all black and native american peoples.

Slavery was never legal in New Zealand. The pre-colonial peoples practiced slavery and it was quickly stamped out by the European settlers.

                            It was never legal. Really.

Do criminals sometimes disobey laws though? Sure.

Does one historical researcher allege that some NZ citizens were doing slave trading in other countries? Sure. Some people do bad things in other countries. Police here can't really stop that.

Are there some concerns today around illegal immigrants coming into NZ and being forced to work in sub-standard conditions, for sub-minimum wages? Sure. It's illegal.

But slavery was never legal here. Period. Sorry if that's too hard a concept for you to understand.

You never used the word "legal" in your original statement. You said, "we never had slavery here". I can't read your mind, if you meant to say it was never legal, then that is what you should have said. There WAS slavery in NZ, and there continues to be slavery continues in NZ in this modern day. Period.

I was talking about reparations from the government. That's only relevant where the government has done wrong.

Also if your definition of a country having had slavery is that even once at some point in the country's history some private citizen illegally forced someone else to work against their will or for below-minimum wage, then all countries have had slavery, and your definition is useless. The relevant distinctions are IMO, whether slavery was legal, and the extent to which it was a practiced and widespread institution. Neither of which things have ever been the case in NZ, unlike the US which was the comparison.
