I've noticed that a lot of really religious people have a tendency to assume other people (especially atheists) are as bad / nasty and thus guilt-ridden as they themselves are.

Fascinating.

They don't seem to understand that on average most people make a significant effort to follow their own conscience, and because they do act morally according to their own lights, they then INcorrectly perceive themselves as pretty good people as measured by their own consciences. They do not therefore typically view themselves as sinful or bad or lost. (The bible even mentions this in Rom 2 so you'd think the Christians would get the memo, but they don't seem to)

Fixed that for you. I agree, most people do not view themselves as sinful or bad or lost, because they rely on their own consciences. The problem is their own standards are messed up. Lots of drunk guys think they're okay to drive, too.

Homophobia is a nice liberal buzzword that doesn't mean what you think it means and it doesn't describe what God thinks about the sin.

And there is far more aggression from the liberals on this site toward believers than the reverse.

I just believe what God says above what any man says. If you want to call me a fanatic for that, then go right ahead.

But I would like to add that a great number of atheists on this site are equally as fanatic about their own beliefs. And I'm sure you'd agree with that.

Oh, and I do loathe my sinful nature. I know I am wretched and vile. But I know that Jesus died to forgive me, and even though I still sin, He continues to forgive. Sin has no power over me, there is no penalty for sin on me anymore, and one day I will be free from the presence of sin in God's presence.

Ok. I've found in my life experience that it's generally worth giving some credence to people's self-assessments.

Obviously you do get some people at each end of the bell-curve (Trump-like figures who think they're amazing at everything, and mental health patients who think they are awful at everything), but most of the time people do seem to be at least half-decent at self-review.

Like most people, I don't buy the "we don't hate homosexuals, we hate homosexuality" excuse for nastiness. You don't get to get out of being responsible for your nastiness just by pretending there's a technicality. I am sorry I phrased my previous post carelessly that allowed you to dodge the main issue and go for this distraction though - so I have gone back and edited that post to say "homosexuality" rather than "homosexuals".

Furthermore I am not your slave whom you can command to supply links when you feel like it. So you skirting as close as possible to breaking your own forum rules about calling people liars when I show no interest in being your obedient slave gets the disgusted eye-roll it deserves.

I disdain adultery just as strongly as I do homosexuality. The problem is our dying society already has little problem with that or any other sexual sins. Homosexuality is just one more step downward in our social decline.
