About half my favorite US media personalities are Jewish, as is my favorite US politician who I hope will be the next president. They're left-wingers and not particularly fans of the actions of the current Israeli government either, and they are usually quick to point out that supporting Jewish people doesn't mean supporting whatever the current crazy right-wing Israeli government happens to be doing.

They point out that too often Americans conflate support for "Israel" with support for whatever crazy policy the Israeli government of the day has spun up on its lottery wheel. It would be like saying that other countries should've been more pro-America and therefore ought to have supported Obama's policy decisions more. Whereas it was actually possible to be pro-America and anti-Obama's policies.

                I agree.

I question the possibility of being pro-America and at the same time supporting Obama's policies. The two seem mutually exclusive to me.

The ADL really doesn't like that argument.

                        Do you?

I don't have any Jewish or Muslim or Black friends myself. I'm a White BoyTM in a white town. The number of Jews and Muslims in my country is negligible. But my favorite US media commentators include atheists who are variously ex-Muslim and ex-Jewish (including those who are still culturally Jewish). They like to talk about Israel/Palestine issues a fair bit and so I get a variety of (left-wing atheist) opinions on the subject in my usual consumption of news.

Of course I do, many going back to my childhood in the 50s. I am actually a minority in my neighborhood - largely Latino, blacks are the next largest group, whites the smallest group. Over the years I lived with blacks, for a while, back in the 80s. I have more recent black friends who were born and raised in Jamaica. Who BTW are even more conservative and religious than me. I had another black friend, Kevin, who was going through a bad divorce (he too was from Jamaica) who committed suicide two years ago. I never saw it coming...

                              I don't think so - I actually don't know anyone who would!
