Yeah, and I saw what he did in The Superior Spider-Man. Let's hope that what happens to Peter Parker at the beginning doesn't happen to Trump.

Please don't inform me. I prefer blissful ignorance.

Comic book creators be like, "E.E. 'Doc' Smith is teh awesome!!!!! We must emulate him in pictures!"
Enter the Church and wash away your sins. For here there is a hospital and not a court of law. Do not be ashamed to enter the Church; be ashamed when you sin, but not when you repent. – St. John Chrysostom

After looking up E.E. Smith, I can say I don't see any similarities between the two. Doctor Octopus is just a supervillain with extra mechanical arms who fights Spider-Man a lot.

Both are so over the top as to be unbelievable.

I read some of the EE Doc Smith Lensmen books. He was really racist and sexist.

              Not surprising, given the era.

I love old sci-fi stories from the 50s and 60s. I actually used to collect them. I read Heinlein, Asimov, Alfred Bester, Leigh Bracket, Bradbury, etc. NONE of them were even close to as racist as EE. His stories read almost like a Nazi, with a "master race" type of hero with lower class humans not being as good. No actual mention of skin color racism as far as I recall.

Oh, I agree there were plenty in that era who weren't racist. On the other hand, Doc Smith flourished in the mid-'30's, when people got free anti-Semitic literature with their new Fords.
