Every so often, FB nags users to set up Two-factor Authentication.

I access FB only from home -- 99% of the time from this laptop, the rest of the time from a desktop.

My only phone is a land-line.

ISTM that 2FA would be a useless inconvenience to me. What am I missing?

It prevents someone elsewhere from hacking your account. If they get or guess your password, they still can't log on because FB (or whatever site you have 2FA on) will send you a code or a text to your phone that you have to type in before it lets you log on. It is an extra pain in the butt, but it does make sure nobody but you can log on (unless they stole your phone too)

      I don't have a smart phone. So... "a code or a text"...?

well if you don't have a smart phone then you probably don't want to use 2FA. The point of it is to have some device that you always have with you so that only you can log on.
