  • Heel Spur Surgery

As some of you know, I'm going to have a heel spur removed. Doc says I can walk right away but not but not drive (!) For a month (hopefully sooner) And I am not to eat or drink aaaaannnnyything from midnight onward the night before the procedure.

I'm going to ask them Monday if they're going to do a local anesthesia because I wonder about this total embargo on food/water. Wow. Anyway, anyone out there want to share it you had this procedure and how long you took to recover?

    ......hmmmm......

The all-knowing ever accurate Internet says if you get a local (knee block apparently) you don't have to starve yourself (DB version of translation) I'm suddenly not so sure of this...

I haven't had the surgery so can't help you on that.

If they indicated to you that it would be local anesthetic then they might just be thinking that in the very rare case of some kind of complication they might have to put you under. Hence the fasting.

      Certainly call and ask them.

My mom had this done when they fixed her torn tendons in her heel. Not being able to drive, and do a lot of other stuff was worse than the pain for her if I'm remembering right.

I recalled this morning that I had to fast for my cataract surgery as well, so I guess it's a precaution more than anything. *wonders if a binge is in order*
