  • Bill Maher says: "Bring on the recession"

Bill Maher has Trump Derangement Syndrome so bad that he is rooting for a recession. He even said: "...Sorry if it hurts people but it's either root for a recession or lose our democracy."

So a rich liberal who probably wouldn't even be affected by a recession can spout this inanity and no one says a word? Where's the threats to pull advertising?

He's not the one who would be at risk of starving to death without going to the food pantry
"I am not angered that the Moral Majority boys campaign against abortion. I am angry when the same men who say, "Save OUR children" bellow "Build more and bigger bombers." That's right! Blast the children in other nations into eternity, or limbless misery as they lay crippled from "OUR" bombers! This does not jell." - Leonard Ravenhill

Bill Maher says many dumb things. I used to enjoy his show but I've long since stopped watching because I couldn't take him anymore.

I am concerned, however, that this Republican administration has undone many of the regulations imposed after the last recession to prevent a repeat, thus opening America and by extension, the world, up to a repeat. Although, at the rate Trump's going he might have fully severed US trade with all other countries except Russia within a couple of years, so that will protect the world from America's next recession.
"I hate him passionately", he's "a demonic force" - Tucker Carlson, in private, on Donald Trump
"Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism" - George Orwell
"[Capitalism] as it exists today is, in my opinion, the real source of evils. I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy" - Albert Einstein

It was the removal of regulations in the banking, industry and the savings-and-loan institutions by Reagan and Thatcher, that resulted in the worst economic crisis the world has seen since the Great Depression. It took Obama to get things back on track. And now Trump is doing it all again.

Meh. Just a few days ago you had Nancy Pelosi mocking the fact that unemployment is so low. I'm sure her comments will be featured in political ads prior to the election.

I'm always still in trouble again

"You're by far the worst poster on TWeb" and "TWeb's biggest liar" --starlight (the guy who says Stalin was a right-winger)
"Overall I would rate the withdrawal from Afghanistan as by far the best thing Biden's done" --Starlight
"Of course, human life begins at fertilization that’s not the argument." --Tassman

I guess in a way Maher is acknowledging how much better everyone is doing economically under Trump and figures this doesn't bode well for the coming "blue wave"

A sputtering anemic economy that was to be the new norm -- at least until he left office.

I used to joke that liberals would celebrate the collapse of America if they could blame it on a conservative.

                I guess it's not a joke anymore.

I think I watched him exactly once and thought, how can anyone this stupid have a show?

I'm assuming you're referring to the Stock Market and Banking regulations that were imposed previously? If so, they never addressed the main issue that caused the mess in the first place which is derivatives. Big world banks and Wall Street perpetrated a fraud on the World by trying to hedge their shaky loans with derivatives...which are STILL totally unregulated. That will be the cause of the next recession IMO.

Here's a good article on the dangers of derivatives: https://www.brookings.edu/opinions/t...f-derivatives/

See my reply to Starlight...it wasn't the banking regulations per se....it was derivatives that pretty much caused the whole thing...and they've never been regulated, and still aren't.

That's pretty much true in most elections..."it's the economy stupid!" has been true for a while.

It depends upon what you think is more important, a temporary recession from which we will recover, or the loss of our democracy to an authoritative dictator. Which would you prefer?
