  • Separating immigrant families and imprisoning children

As no doubt most posters here are aware by now, this Republican administration has chosen to split up the families of asylum seekers, separating children from their parents. This is part of a deliberate policy by Jeff Sessions of attempting to terrorize immigrants in order to deter future immigration.

The UN has condemned this as a violation of international law. A US judged has declared it a clear constitutional violation. Since the US government has a poor record in terms of properly looking after immigrant children it imprisons, a US Senator attempted to visit the detention facility to check conditions there, and rather than let him in, staff called the police to kick him out.

In other threads I have pointed out to Cow Poke that the Republican party acts pretty consistently against families in their policies. This is simply the latest example, albeit a particularly egregious one.

Personally, I think the FBI should break down Jeff Sessions' door, arrest him, throw him into jail, indict him with enough charges that he serves the rest of his life in prison. The same goes down the chain of command for those who choose to follow such horrific orders from those above them. This is an international outrage that will make the history books, akin to the torture program of the last criminal Republican administration, and there should be immediate consequences for those involved.

You can always count on Dimbulb to provide enough spin to make even Chuck Yaeger lose his lunch.

I say keep the families together... Send them all back to their country of origin.

So in your view, the US should accept no asylum applications whatsoever?

Such a brutal and inhumane approach doesn't really surprise me coming from you, I have to say. But at least you would keep the families together, so there's that.

I believe it's extremely immoral but what specific law is broken here?

Probably half of South America could qualify as asylum seekers with all the failed states down there. We just can't take them all.

There is nothing brutal or inhumane as long as the kids are safe and well fed.

Jeff Sessions recently closed a loophole in our immigration laws to prevent victims of ordinary crime in their own countries from claiming asylum status.

The hysterical reaction from the left:

Trump makes it harder for victims of domestic violence to seek asylum!

                Interesting detail:
                Source: ibid

Donald Trump tweeted on the issue on Tuesday, blaming the opposition party. “Separating families at the Border is the fault of bad legislation passed by the Democrats,” he wrote. “Border Security laws should be changed but the Dems can’t get their act together! Started the Wall.”

The policy of separating families at the border was announced by Trump’s attorney general and implemented by Trump’s administration.

So basically this is what is happening:

Entering a country illegally is a crime.
The parents are being arrested for entering illegally.
The children are being cared for by child services while the parent's case is being taken care of.

So basically Starlight would have us throw children in jail in order to keep them with their parents.

Why do you want to throw children in jail, Starlight?

No. This is what is happening:

Entering a country to apply for asylum is not a crime.
The parents are contacting US authorities and applying for asylum.
The children are being separated from the parents while the request is being considered.

                    Source: ibid

Ms. L., who sought asylum at a U.S. port of entry. She had her six-year-old taken from her, purportedly because the government doubted her parentage, and only had her daughter returned four months later after the government was made to conduct a DNA test following the issuance of the suit.
                    ...
According to the allegations in the Amended Complaint, Ms. L. did everything right. She and her child presented at the port of entry and requested asylum. She passed a credible fear screening interview, was taken out of expedited removal proceedings, and placed in removal proceedings before an [immigration judge] to pursue her asylum claim.
                    ...
Ms. L’s child was actually brought here legally ... in accordance with our country’s international agreements on asylum consideration.

Ya got your jackass before the wagon, there, cowboy. FIRST you come up with charges, then indictments, then a warrant, and "breaking down the door" is a bit overly dramatic.

Maybe the FBI us just being consistent and treating Sessions like Hillary.

So.... what would be the charges on the warrant for arrest?

Roy, would you mind including the sources from which your cites are ibid'd?

Thanks (Unless I'm missing something, Starlight provided three separate links....)

They are from Starlight's links - the first is from the Guardian article, the second from Slate. Sadly, I can no longer edit the posts.

No problem - and not trying to be picky - I was, I guess, just too lazy to hunt them down for myself.
