  • Trump Campaign Chairman jailed, facing 25 charges

Judge sends Paul Manafort to jail, pending trial:

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort will await his trial for foreign lobbying charges from jail.

Two weeks after special counsel Robert Mueller's prosecutors dropped new accusations of witness tampering on him, US District Judge Amy Berman Jackson on Friday revoked Manafort's bail, which had allowed him to live in his Alexandria, Virginia, apartment under house arrest....

The judge emphasized to Manafort how she could not make enough rulings to keep him from speaking improperly with witnesses, after he had used multiple text messaging apps and called a potential witness on an Italian cellphone.

"This is not middle school. I can't take his cellphone," she said of Manafort. "I thought about this long and hard, Mr. Manafort. I have no appetite for this."...

In total, he faces seven criminal charges in DC federal court [incl. failing to register as a foreign agent, failure to disclose lobbying efforts to the justice department, lying to department officials]....

He faces another 18 criminal charges for financial fraud and false reporting allegations in Virginia federal court.

It's unsurprising that criminal Trump surrounded himself with other criminals. Mueller's 25 charges against Trump's campaign manager seem likely to be the first of many (Trump's fixer Michael Cohen seems like he's next in line) as Mueller gradually takes down the Trump criminal organisation.

P.S. Oh, and since we don't have a thread about it yet, let's also use this thread to discuss the fact that Trump and his family are being sued for charity fraud, for using his 'charity' as a personal bank account:

The attorney general of New York state sued the Donald J Trump charitable foundation, President Trump and three of his children on Thursday for violating state charity laws, alleging that the Trumps used charitable assets as “little more than a checkbook for payments to not-for-profits from Mr Trump” and his companies.

Foundation assets, acquired through tax-deductible donations, were used to settle legal claims against one of Trump’s golf clubs and to buy a painting of Trump to be displayed at another club, the suit alleges.

The lawsuit, filed by the attorney general, Barbara Underwood, on the morning of Trump’s 72nd birthday, seeks $2.8m in restitution and penalties from Trump and asks for the distribution of $1m in assets to other charities.

The lawsuit also seeks to dissolve the Trump Foundation and bar the Trumps from serving on the boards of any charitable organizations – Trump senior for 10 years and three of his children for one year.

In addition to Trump, the lawsuit names his children Donald Jr, Ivanka and Eric.

Yup, the guy who was with Trump for all of 49 days looks to be in serious trouble for something he did years before the election (apparently he has been under FBI investigation since 2014).

I'm always still in trouble again

I love how Trump's defense is nearly always that he barely knew the criminals whom he appointed to all these important positions. This was his campaign chairman.

Michael Flynn was the National Security Advisor.

"I barely knew him" flies as a casual excuse for an unimportant role. It doesn't fly coming from the highest office in the land concerning key personnel. Some actual taking of personal responsibility once in a while would be nice.

Whoever said he barely knew him?

The fact still remains that he was only with the campaign for 49 days and that these charges are for activities that pre-date the Trump campaign by a couple years. You cannot spin that away.

Where do you get that number? I hope you did not take Trumps words for it... Manafort served Trump for 144 days which has been pointed out repeatedly by news sources but - once again - the president of your country lied and some were fooled.

Sure he can. In his mind.
The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

It is not a fact. As has been reported repeatedly, Manafort was with Trump for 144 days. So who is trying to spin something away? Trump?

Ummm...the OP is about Paul Manafort and mentions Michael Cohen...Sessions isn't mentioned anywhere that I can see...

Thank you for pointing to the error. I had just written about Sessions but of course I was thinking about Manafort who was with Trump for 144 days and not only 49 days like Trump and Rogue claim. I have corrected the original post but what you quoted was the content for a period of time. An error on my side. Sorry.

Apparently you have not learned yet that Trump is a pathological liar and that you shouldn't believe a word he says. Manafort was his campaign manager and ran his campaign for nearly 5 months until word got out concerning his ties to Russia.

Notice that MM amened your post exposing his own ignorance and willingness to believe whatever the liar and chief says.

Anyone want to talk about the fact that Trump is being charged with misusing his "charitable" Trump Foundation as a personal slush fund - exactly what many on the right were upset at the thought that Hillary might be doing that with the Clinton Foundation?

The lawsuit alleges he misused this money regularly and repeatedly, and their evidence includes a handwritten and signed note from Trump himself directing the charity fund to pay a legal settlement for him personally relating to a Mar-o-laga lawsuit. Apparently in Trump's mind, the "Trump Foundation" meant "charitable donations to Donald Trump".

...and now Trump ally Roger Stone reveals an undisclosed meeting with a Russian national. It just never ends.
