  • Proof: Obama's IRS deliberately targeted Tea Party groups

Source: Stunning Confirmation: Judicial Watch Obtains IRS Documents Showing McCain Staff Urging IRS To Target Tea Party Groups…

It has long been suspected; the footprints and fingerprints were always present; McCain repeatedly denied it…. now the evidence surfaces.

For those who remember the issues when the IRS, White House and DOJ organized the post 2010 election “shellacking” targeting of Tea Party groups, the latest discovery from Judicial watch is confirmation of a long-held opinion. John McCain was instrumental in supporting the weaponization of the IRS to target tea party groups.

WASHINGTON DC – […] In the full notes of an April 30, 2013, meeting, McCain’s high-ranking staffer [Henry] Kerner recommends harassing non-profit groups until they are unable to continue operating. Kerner tells Lerner, Steve Miller, then chief of staff to IRS commissioner, Nikole Flax, and other IRS officials, “Maybe the solution is to audit so many that it is financially ruinous.” In response, Lerner responded that “it is her job to oversee it all:”
Henry Kerner asked how to get to the abuse of organizations claiming section 501 (c)(4) but designed to be primarily political. Lois Lerner said the system works, but not in real time. Henry Kerner noted that these organizations don’t disclose donors. Lois Lerner said that if they don’t meet the requirements, we can come in and revoke, but it doesn’t happen timely. Nan Marks said if the concern is that organizations engaging in this activity don’t disclose donors, then the system doesn’t work. Henry Kerner said that maybe the solution is to audit so many that it is financially ruinous. Nikole noted that we have budget constraints. Elise Bean suggested using the list of organizations that made independent expenditures. Lois Lerner said that it is her job to oversee it all, not just political campaign activity.

Judicial Watch previously reported on the 2013 meeting. Senator McCain then issued a statement decrying “false reports claiming that his office was somehow involved in IRS targeting of conservative groups.” The IRS previously blacked out the notes of the meeting but Judicial Watch found the notes among subsequent documents released by the agency. The motives were simple. The GOPe leadership were being challenged by Tea Party primary candidates. Power was being confronted. The professional republican party was in full alignment with the Obama administration in removing the existential threat represented by the challenge to their political power and incumbency. McConnell, Hatch, Burr, Graham, McCain, Cornyn, Corker et al, were willing to do anything and everything to get rid of the challenges to their political power. Hence, the term “Decepticons” was born.

And before any of you liberals say it, you would have to be a moron to believe that Obama was ignorant of all of this.

Considering that the IRS even apologized for targeting them why is this a surprise?

From that bastion of conservatism, NPR:

Source: IRS Apologizes For Aggressive Scrutiny Of Conservative Groups

In a legal settlement that still awaits a federal judge's approval, the IRS "expresses its sincere apology" for mistreating a conservative organization called Linchpins of Liberty — along with 40 other conservative groups — in their applications for tax-exempt status.

And in a second case, NorCal Tea Party Patriots and 427 other groups suing the IRS also reached a "substantial financial settlement" with the government.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the two settlements Thursday. The Justice Department quoted him as saying of the IRS activity: "There is no excuse for this conduct. Hundreds of organizations were affected by these actions, and they deserve an apology from the IRS. We hope that today's settlement makes clear that this abuse of power will not be tolerated."

It's "a historic victory," said Jay Sekulow of the American Center for Law and Justice, a conservative nonprofit legal group representing the Linchpins plaintiffs. Sekulow, who is also on President Trump's personal legal-defense team, said the IRS agreed to stop "the abhorrent practices utilized against our clients."

And back in 2013 the IRS director of tax exempt organizations, Lois Lerner (before she started invoking the Fifth Amendment's right to avoid incriminating herself) apologized for the IRS's targeting of conservative groups prior to the 2012 elections. Of course she tried to palm it off as only being done by low-level employees in a field office in Cincinnati but the Washington Post discovered that this was false and that IRS officials in Washington were involved in targeting of conservative groups. As more details emerged it became increasingly clear that it was national in scope.

The IRS went after conservative groups (particularly those with "Tea Party," "patriot," "9/12" and the like as part of their name[1]) either delaying their applications for 501(c)(4) tax-exemption status (only 4 of something like 400 groups were approved between April 2010 and April 2012), using intimidation tactics like demanding the names of their donors, contributors, and grantors (a great way of drying up funding) and releasing confidential information about conservative groups to third parties. Not surprisingly later an Inspector General found that such questions were entirely inappropriate.

One conservative organization which had applied to the IRS for for 501(c)(4) tax-exemption status had figured out what was going on after they received no response from the IRS after waiting 16 months. So they withdrew their application and changed their name into what they figured was a "liberal-sounding name" ("Greenhouse Solutions"), reapplied and were approved in three weeks.

In the end the IRS admitted that they had targeted conservative groups for intrusive scrutiny and apologized but insisted that nothing criminal had been done[2].

Oh, I should note that liberals have sought to dismiss this sordid affair because a hand full of liberal groups had also been subject to additional IRS scrutiny but it was at a far lower rate than conservative groups and more importantly analysis revealed that most of it took place after people started becoming aware of what they were doing. IOW, after their antics were being made public the IRS quickly added some liberal groups to soften perceptions of political bias. Still, even after that ploy 83% of those targeted were conservative.

Moreover, an examination of IRS's original "Be On The Lookout" (BOLO) list revealed that IRS screeners were instructed to treat liberal groups differently from conservative groups. For example liberal groups could be approved on the spot by line agents whereas conservative groups had to be sent up to IRS higher-ups for further scrutiny.

      1. a 2013 report released by the IRS Inspector General showed that a full 100% of groups with "Tea Party," "patriot" or "9/12" in their names had been targeted.

      2. James Comey said that was his conclusion as well. One must wonder if he reached that conclusion prior to examining the evidence like he did with the Hillary Clinton e-mail scandal.

This is where it gets interesting: It seems that the same McCain staffer who was suggesting how to weaponize the IRS against the Tea Party, is the same guy who was in charge of the investigation into the political weaponization of the IRS.

Source: Now It All Starts Making Sense – Deep State “Fixer”: Henry John Kerner, The Cover-Up Expert….

Imagine investigating yourself. That’s exactly what Kerner was doing as a member of the Permanent Subcommittee On Investigations.

And now Henry Kerner is in charge of all investigations of fraud and abuse in government, and the outcomes of whistleblowers?

No wonder the Deep State feels empowered. With DC control agents ensuring the corruption and gross misconduct remains hidden, there’s not much fear of getting caught.

        Unreal.
