Westerns are hit and miss for me, but when they hit they can make for some awesome movies. What are some of your favorites?
I've seen Unforgiven and didn't really care for it. It had its moments, and Gene Hackman was excellent, but overall it was kind of "meh."
- Tombstone (obviously)
- Ravenous (this one isn't really a pure western, but close enough)
- Bone Tomahawk (This and the next one are extremely brutal at times, so fair warning)
- Brawl in Cell Block 99 (not a western at all, but it's by the director of Bone Tomahawk and stylistically/thematically close enough...also, one of my absolute favs)
- Open Range (has arguably one of the best gunfights ever put on-screen)
- The Salvation (a Danish western? Why not?)
- Appaloosa
