      *Sticky point, a physicist would have a 'working knowledge' of Newton - but he still wouldn't need to read Principles to get it.
      Not according to one of my former professors who has a Ph.D. in Physics. He read all of them while working on his dissertation.

        Why the heck would you need out of date source material for a Ph.D.? Granted, I was trying for mine in Poli Sci but I never even picked up Locke or any other political philosopher during my doctorate studies - it seriously wasn't necessary for my emphasis (although that could have changed for the dissertation - but I doubt it). But Newton for a degree related to quantum makes zero sense.

        Better question - what was his dissertation topic?
