This is true. It has gotten weirder, and in some districts, you can be pretty nutty and still win.

The interviews I've seen with her since her 'win' show her really struggling to actually come up with a message that will sell. She obviously had no idea whatsoever that she would actually win, and doesn't seem to have a clue how to govern. This might be fun to watch.

Probably most. There are very few competitive House districts.

More-so in statewide and especially presidential elections. Not so much in districts which can be incredibly insular.

True, and it will be fun to watch her try to make sense.

She doesn't seem any more liberal than Bernie Sanders did early in his campaign (once he got some traction and some good PR people, he stopped emphasizing his most socialistic policies).

Sounds like any other Democrat who runs for office.

It seems that the MSM is trying to build her up as a major rising star but both of the candidates combined got fewer than 28,000 votes in a district with over 214,000 Democrats on the voting rolls.

While turnouts for off year elections are rarely large this was minuscule indicating not much excitement for her in the district.

I get you struggle to cope with nuance, but really the difference between a Communist and a Democratic Socialist I would say is more than twice as large as the difference between a Republican and a Libertarian. They're not really concepts even someone as generally confused as you should be confusing.

Is getting that "low" of a turnout in primaries really that odd? I was under the impression that turnout was generally fairly low for primaries in general (presidential elections excepted) because most people don't really pay much attention until the actual election.

The NY Dem machine has deliberately tried to lower primary turnout by holding different primaries on different dates so people can't just turn up once and vote in "the" primary. It's a silly move which has backfired on them, because lowering primary turnout means relatively unknown challengers need to drum up a lower amount of support to win. In higher-turnout primaries, lesser known candidates struggle because the lazy majority of voters turn up and tick names they've heard of across their ballot.

That low? Yes. It was not much over 10%

Nancy Pelosi got upset at questions concerning Ocasio-Cortez's victory snarling at reporters not to read too much into this. That was the polar opposite of her reaction when Republican Whip Eric Cantor went down in defeat in the primaries a few years ago.

Pelosi is scared that the Dem base has had it with corrupt centrists, and actually wants progressives to win, so she's worried she'll be next on the chopping block.

No, a Socialist is just a Communist without a gun. The end is the same, more and more state control.
