With or without Kennedy, Roe is doomed - this might (or might not) speed up the process. That said, there are other cases that would also have to be addressed - it depends on exactly how Roe is overturned as to the full impact.

But yeah, when Roe falls, it's the beginning of the end if not the end.

Things like abortion and gay marriage aren't going anywhere. They'll still remain legal. What is likely to change, if anything, is (in the case of abortion) they'll be more tightly regulated meaning there will be fewer folks like Kermit Gosnell, Nareshkumar "Naresh" Patel, Brian Finkel, Robert Rho, James Pendergraft IV etc. getting away with what they did for so long. Or Planned Parenthood simply checking boxes on forms saying what they "intend" to do and then harvesting unborn babies they kill for parts to sell.

I'm always still in trouble again

I think that may be the case initially, but I don't see abortion on demand surviving indefinitely.

Gay marriage is on shakier ground - all that really keeps it propped up is political will. for the time being, yeah, I think you're right. But political will changes and just as Roe was once viewed as unassailable politically, sexual orientation hysteria will eventually change and the law will likely change with it.

Yeah, it's not like there is video evidence of Planned Parenthood workers and officials admitting that they actually do stuff like that.

Gay marriage enjoys popular support. If SCOTUS were to reverse their decision that it is constitutionally protected you'd likely see swift legislative action to change that and would in all likelihood receive a good deal of support from Republicans.

Not to be a realist, but if Roe v. Wade (actually Casey v. Pennsylvania) were overturned, at least 25 states would outlaw abortion within the next few months, probably growing to about 35 states within a couple of years.

                    Glad to see you muz.

I think you'll see Republican legislatures being as eager to outlaw it as Republicans in Congress were to repeal Obamacare. They talked big but when given the opportunity they balked. They might pass stricter regulations (maybe parental consent for minors and the like) but I seriously doubt they'll ban it.

In either case, let the states decide.

Today, yes - fifty years from now? Not necessarily. Twenty-five years from now? Dunno.

                            Muz!!!!

Pretty much, yep. Legally, Casey is probably the bigger issue (haven't read it in a while - okay, now I'm not sure if I've ever read it so it's going on the reading list) but politically/psychologically, Roe is the lynch pin. I suspect (pre-reading) that Casey won't long survive Roe but that's based more on the politics of the thing than the cases.
