One of my best friends growing up is now a top level political operative in the state I grew up with and he told me the Republicans have no intention of actually banning abortion because they profit too much from exploiting it as a wedge issue. I didn't believe him then but now I'm not so sure.

Any legislation they passed was sure to be vetoed. But then lo and behold they controlled both House of Congress and the White House and then all of a sudden some of those who cried out the loudest about repealing it, like John McCain, voted against repealing it exposing themselves for what they really are. Lying opportunists. I think the same thing would happen with abortion.
      Career politicians, what to expect?

Trump keeps promises to base, people like McCain cos that makes new standard for politics. Sad!

        A few things...

        1) Tomi "came out" as Pro Choice on The View over a year ago, and got fired from The Blaze in the ensuing tumult.

        2) Polls show that among all Americans, about 63-70% favor NOT overturning Roe v. Wade. Republicans do favor overturning, but not by a huge majority -- 53-58%.

This should not matter to a Justice. We are fond of saying we want "Constitutionalists," "textualists," "originalists," Justices with "judicial restraint" as opposed to "judicial activism." The kind of Justices we say we want would not care what the overall public wants, nor what the "conservative base" wants, nor what POTUS wants, nor even what his or her own moral compass wants. They would care about the Constitution, laws, precedent, and the extent to which any particular abortion-related case legitimately demands reconsideration of Roe v. Wade.

It's not a secret that abortion is a much more effective judicial issue than a legislative issue for Republicans which is why I suspect Roe v Wade will be "one vote away" indefinitely. Orrin Hatch is actively trying to downplay the possibility of Roe being overturned as it is "settled law". (Incidentally, I didn't realize he was 84.)
"I am not angered that the Moral Majority boys campaign against abortion. I am angry when the same men who say, "Save OUR children" bellow "Build more and bigger bombers." That's right! Blast the children in other nations into eternity, or limbless misery as they lay crippled from "OUR" bombers! This does not jell." - Leonard Ravenhill

I've found that ground flax seed is much more reliable than prune juice.
