  • Trump Tape

So if anyone watched the news yesterday, Cohen's lawyer released one of the tapes Cohen made of a conversation with Trump and Cohen.

Cohen's lawyer is trying to claim that Trump told Cohen to pay off someone (Mcdougal?) with cash. Trump's team says he said "Don't pay with Cash" - meaning he wanted it on the books like it should be.

    Here is the story:

Video with full recording of Trump:

    https://www.cnn.com/2018/07/24/polit...ape/index.html

Well, I took the recording at the relevant part, isolated what Trump said and slowed it down. See the attached mp3 file.

Trump clearly says "Don't pay with cash."

So he's paying off a mistress, and we should believe his primary concern was accounting and whether it was properly on the books? I don't think that passes the smell test.

I don't think it's relevant whether it was on the books, and I don't know or particularly care exactly what he was referring to. The more interesting issue is the extent to which he was paying off various mistresses. And let's bear in mind that he wasn't paying them for their silence - he was conning them - they were agreeing to, for money, sell their story exclusively to the National Enquirer, who as they were Trump supporters would then not publish it. So these women thought they were signing a document by which they agreed to tell their story, but being the fraud and conman he is, Trump was using that same document to keep their story quiet. (If I were a judge, I would shred that contract so fast people's heads would be spinning)

What's also interesting is that one of the mistresses paid off by Cohen got paid an order of magnitude more than the others, and also, had an abortion. How do Trump supporters feel about Trump paying for abortions? Is it still murder if Trump does it? Or was he right in saying he could shoot someone on 5th avenue and you smucks would still support him?

What's on the menu today? Oh, look, it's another nothing burger.

Source: Dershowitz: No Crime’ in Trump-Cohen Tape

Alan Dershowitz: “[H]ere you have the client maybe saying, let’s pay cash. The lawyer says, no, no, no, do it by check. And the client comes back and says, I’ll do it by check. That’s a typical conversation. I’ve had that conversation a dozen times with clients, and you persuade them to do the right thing."

      [....]

“This is all political. There is no crime here. The worst, worst case scenario, take everything Lanny Davis says as true, there’s no crime. There’s no federal crime. There’s no impeachable offense. This is all about how the president looks in the court of public opinion, whether or not he, through his lawyer, said something that was not true. I think they will win that fight because the tape’s ambiguous enough so that there will be people who will hear it the way they want to hear it, and other people who will hear it the way they want to hear it.”

And this is the real reason Dirty Cop Mueller orchestrated the raid on Cohen, not because there was any suspicion that a crime was committed but because they wanted to be able to damage Trump with leaks to the media.

The payment in question was actually to David Pecker, from the National Enquirer, for the story rights, and the payment was actually never made.

We've come a long way since the days when JC Watts could speak on the floor about how bad Bill Clinton's moral example was for kids.

Or when Gary Hart's presidential campaign was torpedoed with the suggestion that he was involved in an affair.

This kind of stuff is nothing new. It’s been going on for decades. Difference is that’s it’s harder to hide it now.

Source: CNN Obtains Trump Cohen Recording From Lanny Davis…

This is funny…. this is actually very funny to anyone who knows Trump lingo.

Lanny is hung up on the wording “cash” from POTUS Trump and tries to spin it a particular way. Despite what some may say, there is a possibility Lanny is not being intentionally malicious. What Lanny is missing is the context of “cash” in relation to the question Donald Trump asks moments prior about “financing”.

Trump asks the question about “financing” from his business dealing position where “financing” equals “loans”; and he responds to Michael Cohen from the same perspective where “cash” equals “money-on-hand”, ie. not a loan. [‘what financing? we have cash’]

                [...]

Here’s where Lanny might be intentionally malicious. Notice how the recording is abruptly edited to cut off right when Trump starts the sentence with the word “check”. If the entire recording were to be released it would be a conversation like: “what financing? we have cash, use cash, just write a check”… An ordinary transactional nothingburger.

                This is silly.

Yeah I agree. But then this was apparently before any money was paid to McDougal, so it wasn't actually a civil fraud unless you can show that Trump intended to fool her and told the National Enquirer to lie to her. He could have just meant to pay her to shut up and be open about it. Why else have a paper trail? And again, he never actually paid anything.

Most of them still seem to be in the denial or anger stage of grief. Given how long it has been I don't expect acceptance to come any time soon.

Not that it matters, but I think you're imagining things. Whatever he said, you can't make it out. All I can hear Trump say is "pay with cash". Whatever is mumbled prior to that is unclear. Also, according to Cohen's lawyer, it wasn't them that released the tape, they would have no reason to release it since it would be a bargaining chip for securing immunity for Cohen. Obviously the Trump team released the tape in order to take that bargaining chip away from Cohen. Trey Gowdy made a great point, if Trump is innocent, he should start acting like it.

Listen to the audio in the OP. It is clear as day. All I did was slow it down a little. First you hear it regular speed, then three times slowed down. He clearly says "Don't pay with cash"
